Working memory is currently a 'hot' topic in cognitive psychology and neuroscience. Because of their radically different scopes and emphases, however, comparing different models and theories and understanding how they relate to one another has been a difficult task. This volume offers a much-needed forum for systematically comparing and contrasting existing models of working memory. It does so by asking each contributor to address the same comprehensive set of important theoretical questions on working memory. The answers to these questions provided in the volume elucidate the emerging general consensus on the nature of working memory among different theorists and crystallize incompatible theoretical claims that must be resolved in future research. As such, this volume serves not only as a milestone that documents the state-of-the-art in the field but also as a theoretical guidebook that will likely promote new lines of research and more precise and comprehensive models of working memory.

This book provides an in-depth understanding of how children’s development at different stages of their lives interfaces with the kind of education and support they need at school and home. It examines closely how education, in turn, influences their development and prepares them for an uncertain future. The chapters focus on the rapid developments of the 21st century that are changing the nature of education, especially the shift needed to being able to sift through and meaningfully deal with overwhelming volumes of information now available. This book helps readers understand how children can benefit from the digital environment while avoiding its pitfalls. Keeping in mind that in today’s world parents are getting to spend less time with their children, the authors provide research-backed ideas on how they can best enable children’s development, including their thoughts, feelings and notions of self. Given the increasing disparities, there is a perceptive analysis of how education can build an awareness of equity in a context marked by diversity and disadvantage. This book addresses issues such as these in a reliable, scholarly yet accessible manner, for students, young researchers and lay readers. Consequently, it is a valuable source of fundamental insights and understanding for educators, policy-makers, educational administrators and students of human and child development, education, and teacher training courses. .

This book provides an insight in the phenomenon of Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A), including the various forms of corporate restructuring. It highlights the importance of M&A as a strategy for faster growth in the corporate. The book provides an enriched experience of the art of valuation with detailed description of M&A process, deal structuring and financing. The book also provides the broader perspective of Accounting and Regulatory aspects of M&A. While covering the conceptual underpinnings of M&A, the book supplements it with real life examples on each sub-topic with various numeric examples. Thus the judicious blend of theory and practical aspects, through numerical as well as real life case-studies, make the book a source of vast knowledge in the complicated and dynamic world of M&A.

The ability to navigate across town, comprehend an animated display of the functioning of the human heart, view complex multivariate data on a company's website, or to read an architectural blueprint and form a three-dimensional mental picture of a house are all tasks involving visuospatial thinking. The field of visuospatial thinking is a relatively diverse interdisciplinary research enterprise. An understanding of visuospatial thinking, and in particular, how people represent and process visual and spatial information, is relevant not only to cognitive psychology but also education, geography, architecture, medicine, design computer science/artificial intelligence, semiotics and animal cognition. The goal of this book, first published in 2005, is to present a broad overview of research on visuospatial thinking that can be used by researchers as well as students interested in this topic in both basic research and applied/naturalistic contexts.

The main objective is to provide quick and essential knowledge for the subject with the help of summary and solved questions /case studies without going into detailed discussion. This book will be much helpful for the students as a supplementary text/workbook; and to the non-computer professionals, who deal with the systems analysis and design as part of their business. Such problem solving approach will be able to provide practical knowledge of the subject and similar learning output, without going into lengthy discussions. Though the book is conceived as supplementary text/workbook; the topics are selected and arranged in such a way that it can provide complete and sufficient knowledge of the subject.

This textbook provides readers with the tools, techniques and cases required to excel with modern artificial intelligence methods. These embrace the family of neural networks, fuzzy systems and evolutionary computing in addition to other fields within machine learning, and will help in identifying, visualizing, classifying and analyzing data to support business decisions. The authors, discuss advantages and drawbacks of different approaches, and present a sound foundation for the reader to design and implement data analytic solutions for applications in an intelligent manner. Intelligent Techniques for Data Science also provides real-world cases of extracting value from data in various domains such as retail, health, aviation, telecommunication and tourism.

This book discusses several mathematical models highlighting the disease dynamics of psoriasis and its control. It explains the control of keratinocyte concentration through a negative feedback mechanism and the effect of including a realistic time delay in that system. The effect of cytokine release is described in a mathematical model of psoriasis and further elucidated in two different mathematical pathways: the ordinary differential equation model system, and the fractional-order differential equation model system. The book also identifies the role of CD8+ T-cells in psoriasis by investigating the interaction between dendritic cells and CD8+ T-cells. Presenting an approach to control the fractional-order system to prevent excess production of keratinocyte cell population, the book is intended for researchers and scientists in the field of applied mathematics, health informatics, applied statistics and qualitative public health, as well as bio-mathematicians interested in the mathematical modeling of autoimmune diseases like psoriasis.
