De voorliggende handleiding wenst tegemoet te komen aan de vraag naar duidelijke, praktische en wetenschappelijk verantwoorde informatie over het vernieuwde vaccinatiebeleid. Het boek richt zich tot de medicus-practicus maar ook tot alle personen en instellingen die bij de uitvoering van het vaccinatieprogramma betrokken zijn. Ook aan de immunisatie van reizigers wordt de nodige aandacht besteed. Voor elk hoofdstuk werd beroep gedaan op een ervaren specialist ter zake. Daarbij werd gestreefd naar een zekere uniformiteit in de voorstelling. De praktische informatie over de beschikbaarheid, handelsnaam, kostprijs en terugbetalingsmodaliteiten beantwoordt aan de toestand einde 1995. Gezien het tijdelijke karakter van deze informatie en de snelle ontwikkelingen op het gebied van de immunisatie, ligt het in de bedoeling van de redactie, de lezer op de hoogte te houden door regelmatige aanvullingen op deze handleiding.
