Conceived as a guide for practitioners in their work in dermatology, this book is unique in its approach. From cutaneous signs to the richness of differential diagnosis, it guides practitioners through every step, from semiological analysis to diagnosis. The aim is to provide readers with the essentials of relevant dermatological reasoning. The first part of the book focuses on physical examination and on recognizing basic lesions, the practitioner’s building blocks. The diseases requiring understanding are then described in the form of a richly illustrated atlas, in which each diagram has been chosen as an exemplary educational tool. In the final part, differential diagnosis is proposed in the form of various tables summarizing the different cutaneous signs, providing readers with a complete toolkit to assist with diagnosis. This book will give trainee dermatologists, general physicians and internists the knowledge they need to identify basic lesions and a complete and detailed overview of the various diseases they are likely to encounter. At the same time, experienced dermatologists will find this book a valuable reference work for differential diagnosis.

The interactions between the thyroid gland and the skin are of profound clinical importance in health and disease. Given the prevalence of thyroid disease worldwide, it is imperative that primary care physicians, endocrinologists, and dermatologists appreciate the scope of these associations so that thyroid disease may be diagnosed and treated expediently. Thyroid Disorders with Cutaneous Manifestations is a single authoritative resource enabling physicians to comprehend the basic science, laboratory evaluation, epidemiology, and clinical aspects of thyroid diseases and their cutaneous manifestations. Specific disorders such as the thyroglossal duct cyst and cutaneous metastases, nonspecific features of the skin and its appendages seen in hyper- and hypothyroidism, and the multiple associations with other dermatologic and systemic diseases are all surveyed, while individual chapters are devoted to various syndromal diseases, such as alopecia in thyroid disease, thyroid dermopathy (pretibial myxedema) and the relationship of autoimmune thyroid disease to chronic idiopathic urticaria and angioedema. Internationally recognized experts have contributed to this comprehensive text, with an unique "editorial perspective" written for each chapter by the Editor which offers a coherent thread to this book’s narrative so that the scope, complexity, and relevance of this text is further understood and appreciated.

At least 40 skin signs are associated with eating disorders (EDs), and some of them are considered guiding signs because they are indicative of an otherwise hidden ED. These skin signs may arise due to starvation, self-induced vomiting, drug consumption, and concomitant psychiatric illness. The role of the dermatologist in this context is to suspect the presence of a hidden ED based on the guiding signs. With this in mind, the most important specialists in the field come together in this book to document all of the dermatological aspects of EDs. General topics such as classification of EDs, epidemiology, and medical complications are first addressed, and skin signs attributable to various causes are then discussed in a series of detailed chapters. Characteristic changes in the hair, nails, and oral cavity are also carefully documented. The closing chapters address various other related issues of interest, including pain sensitivity in patients with EDs and the effects of anorexia nervosa on skin thickness and skin collagen. Eating Disorders and the Skin will be an invaluable source of up-to-date information for both novice and experienced dermatologists, as well as other practitioners with an interest in EDs, psychiatrists, and nurses.
