Abstract

This practical new resource explores the fundamentals of EMC engineering and examines the concepts and underpinnings of electromagnetics. This book highlights the procedures from design to market for both technical and non-technical issues, including market control, accreditation, calibration, EMC tests and measurement, and EMC protection. Basic electrical engineering theories, Maxwell equations, EM scattering, diffraction and propagation in the electromagnetic model are presented. The circuit model, including lumped parameter circuit elements, two-port circuit definitions, grounding, common and differential model currents, and microstripline circuits are explored.n nThis book also covers antennas and antenna calibration, including communication antennas, normalized site attenuation (NSA), loop antennas, and loop antenna calibration (LAC). Noise and frequency analysis on fundamental electromagnetic signals, noise, and transforms is explained. Readers find insight into EMC test and measurement environments and devices. Time-saving MATLAB code is included in this resource to help engineers with their projects in the field.

Abstract

This comprehensive new resource provides methods and tools for defining EMC requirements and techniques for performing predictions and calculations to achieve electromagnetic compatibility. This book demonstrates how radar, communications, and navigation systems can function without interference. EMC requirements for the device, platform, site, and arena level are discussed and EMC detection analysis is utilized to predict EMC problems. The book explores the interference between receiving and transmitting electronic systems and examines intersystem and intrasystem EMC.nnTechniques and mathematical framework for performing EMC prediction and calculations to solve electromagnetic compatibility problems are highlighted. Moreover, this book presents classic methods and several original EMC calculation procedures including new approaches in mathematical development of interference probability calculations. Readers learn how to anticipate problems and then define EMC solutions.

Abstract

This book presents the phenomena of conducted electromagnetic interference (EMI) generation in DC-DC converters. The measurement and simulation are used to analyze the impact of the most important parameters on the character, level and propagation path of interference. In this book, the analysis of the interference generation and propagation is presented on the example of three basic converters. The wide banded behavior of all components is presented including basic elements and its parasitic and the connection layout. It focuses on the influence of parasitic components on the nature of interference in the frequency domain up to 30MHz was carried out. The book includes practical design and operation tips that will help to reduce the EMI. It provides useful knowledge about designing of the converters with the low level of outgoing EMI. They were obtained in original research and published in scientific articles by the author. Abstract

Electromagnetic Compatibility of Integrated Circuits: Techniques for Low Emission and Susceptibility focuses on the electromagnetic compatibility of integrated circuits. The basic concepts, theory, and an extensive historical review of integrated circuit emission and susceptibility are provided. Standardized measurement methods are detailed through various case studies. EMC models for the core, I/Os, supply network, and packaging are described with applications to conducted switching noise, signal integrity, near-field and radiated noise. Case studies from different companies and research laboratories are presented with in-depth descriptions of the ICs, test set-ups, and comparisons between measurements and simulations. Specific guidelines for achieving low emission and susceptibility derived from the experience of EMC experts are presented.

Abstract

A large amount of natural or artificially produced physical phenomena are exploited for practical applications, even though several of them give rise to unpleasant consequences. These ultimately manifest themselves under form of malfunction or definitive failure of components and systems, or environmental hazard. So far, manifold categories of inadvertent or deliberate sources have been discovered to simultaneously produce useful effects in some ways but adverse ones in others. In particular, responsible for the growing interest in the last decades for Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) has b

Abstract

This book provides the knowledge and good design practice for the design or test engineer to take the necessary measures to improve EMC performance and therefore the chance of achieving compliance, early on in the design process. There are many advantages for both the component supplier and consumer, of looking at EMC at component and PCB level. For the suppliers, not only will their products have the competitive edge because they have known EMC performance, but they will be prepared should EMC compliance become mandatory in the future. For consumers it is a distinct advantage to know
