In this book the most important techniques available for longitudinal data analysis are discussed. This discussion includes simple techniques such as the paired t-test and summary statistics, but also more sophisticated techniques such as generalised estimating equations and random coefficient analysis. A distinction is made between longitudinal analysis with continuous, dichotomous, and categorical outcome variables. It should be stressed that the emphasis of the discussion lies on the interpretation of the different techniques and on the comparison of the results of different techniques. Furthermore, special chapters will deal with the analysis of two measurements, experimental studies and the problem of missing data in longitudinal studies. Finally, an extensive overview of (and a comparison between) different software packages is provided. It is important to realise that this book is a practical guide and especially suitable for non-statisticians. Clearly understandable by non-statisticians Compares and contrasts different techniques and methods of analysis Illustrated with examples of real-life research questions

Johnny Saldaña's unique and invaluable manual demystifies the qualitative coding process with a comprehensive assessment of different coding types, examples and exercises. The ideal reference for students, teachers, and practitioners of qualitative inquiry, it is essential reading across the social sciences and neatly guides you through the multiple approaches available for coding qualitative data. Its wide array of strategies, from the more straightforward to the more complex, is skillfully explained and carefully exemplified providing a complete toolkit of codes and skills that can be applied to any research project. For each code Saldaña provides information about the method's origin, gives a detailed description of the method, demonstrates its practical applications, and sets out a clearly illustrated example with analytic follow-up. Now with a companion website, the book is supported by: SAGE journal articles showing coding being applied to real research Sample transcripts highlighting coding techniques Links to CAQDAS sites to introduce relevant software Practical student exercises Links to video and digital content This international bestseller is an extremely usable, robust manual and is a must-have resource for qualitative researchers at all levelBron : http://uk.sagepub.com

"An Introduction to Statistics and Data Analysis Using Stata® : From Research Design to Final Report provides a step-by-step introduction for statistics, data analysis, and research methods classes using Stata software. Concise descriptions emphasize the concepts behind statistics rather than the derivations of the formulas. With real-world examples from a variety of disciplines and extensive detail on the commands in Stata, this text provides an integrated approach to research design, statistical analysis, and report writing for social science students. Chapters start with a summary table that identifies a research hypothesis, the appropriate statistical test, the assumptions, and the Stata code, giving students key information in an easy-to-use format. News articles illustrate the application of the statistical technique to real-world data and research. Tables listing research questions and hypotheses drawn from six social science disciplines demonstrate the range of possible applications of a statistical method. Examples of statistical methods using real data from the Admitted Student Questionnaire, General Social Survey, the National Survey on Drug Use and Health, and the School Survey on Crime and Safety. Stata functions are displayed in both code and menus to show students the links between the two ways to use Stata. Instructor materials include a set of week-by-week instructions to involve students in a group project in which they implement a survey, analyze the data, and report on the results, based on a topic of their choice. More than 50 homework and test questions (with full answer keys for instructors) help students learn data analysis skills and writing through practice on current data sets that cover college characteristics, admitted student questionnaires, social norms and opinions, drug use, and school safety."--taken from back cover.
