Le luxe évoque la consommation sous sa forme la plus emblématique : superflue, uniformisée et mondialisée. Aujourd'hui, le paradoxe des produits et des marques de luxe est que, tout en étant une illustration de la globalisation, il est malvenu de les soumettre systématiquement aux standards universels de la publicité, du marketing et du consumérisme.
