Abstract

Gosia Malgorzata Olchowska is a Polish-Belgian architect and graphic artist (1982). As an architect, she is mainly known for her conceptual approach to drawings, sketches and collages, while her graphic artworks mainly focus on architecture. What precedes architecture? In this publication, architect-artist Malgorzata Maria Olchowska investigates how personal and collective memories influence our view of the built environment.According to Olchowska, there is no limit to the resilience of cities: “Cities go up and down, we see that now with the war in Ukraine or with the earthquake in Turkey and Syria. Urban districts that are now in ruins will sooner or later be rebuilt.” The book is built around a text by Vlad Ionescu (Faculty of Architecture and Art, PXL/UHasselt) in which he reflects on Olchowska’s work, from 2009 to today. This is supplemented and illustrated by means of a visual essay in which Olchowska shows her work of the last five years.

Abstract

This book is the third of a series of five volumes that exhaustively brings together the writings of Jean-François Lyotard (1924-1998) on contemporary art and artists. This collection of essays, written between 1974 and 1977 in the middle of the time of Duchamp's rediscovery in France, was published by Editions Galilée (Paris) in 1977 and in English translation by The Lapis Press (Los Angeles) in 1990. This volume republishes the two versions face to face, including the drawings, diagrams and images of the original edition. Herman Parret presents the text in a substantial introduction and Dalia Judovitz situates it in the more general framework of Lyotardian philosophical reflection. Duchamp's 'TRANS/formers' reconstructs the 'Large glass and given', Duchamp's two major works that glorify the body in its topological conceptuality.

Abstract

The fourth volume in the series "Jean-Franðcois Lyotard: Writings on Contemporary Art and Artists" contains 48 texts written by Lyotard between the early seventies and 1998, the year of his death. Nine of these texts are previously unpublished papers on general aesthetics and the theory of art. The remaining 39 essays deal with 27 specific artists: Luciano Berio, Richard Lindner, René Guiffrey, Gianfranco Baruchello, Henri Maccheroni, Riwan Tromeur, Albert Ayme, Manuel Casimiro, Ruth Francken, Barnett Newman, Jean-Luc Parant, François Lapouge, Sam Francis, André Dubreuil, Joseph Kosuth, Sarah Flohr, Lino Centi, Gigliola Fazzini, Bracha Lichtenberger Ettinger, Henri Martin, Michel Bouvet, Corinne Filippi, Stig Brogger, François Rouan, Pierre Skira Pastels, and Béatrice Casadesus. Many of these texts are notes or contributions to catalogues; some were published in now inaccessible journals.
