Healthcare Emergency Incident Management Operations Guide offers healthcare personnel a quick and intuitive guide to preparing for, responding to and recovering from events which have the potential to impact their operations. The recently updated Centers for Medicaid & Medicare Services (CMS) rules for emergency preparedness added 10-15 new healthcare organizations into the mix that require emergency preparedness efforts. The Hospital Incident Command System (HICS) is a good tool for event management but, like all tools, it requires practice. Many hospital personnel take online ICS courses and rarely practice enough to be proficient. This is a comprehensive guide to the HICS and can be referenced during initial and refresher training as well as during event management.

With reference to a brief description of inherent properties of the international news reporting process in a free press tradition, Verschueren criticizes their being neglected in linguistic approaches to the language of the media. In an attempt to illustrate the potential contribution of functional linguistic analyses to a better understanding of the printed media as a channel for international communication, he investigates the use of metapragmatic metaphors (in particular metaphorical verbs of speaking) in the reporting by The New York Times on the U-2 incident in May 1960.

This book contends that the massacre of civilians in Beijing on June Fourth 1989 was a pivotal rupture in both Chinese and world history. If not for that day, China?s socioeconomic, political and cultural landscape would not have undergone the kind of dramatic transformation that has made China rich but unequal, open but hyper-nationalist, moralistic but immoral and unhappy. Through the lens of global history the book revisits the drama of Tiananmen and demonstrates how it unfolded, ended, and ultimately how that ending ? in a consensus of forgetting ? came to shape the world of the 21st century. It offers a theorization on the inclusion of China into global capitalism and argues that the planetary project of neoliberalism has been prolonged by China?s market reforms. This has resulted in an ongoing convergence of economic and authoritarian political practices that transcend otherwise contrasting political systems. With China?s growing global influence, the late leader Deng Xiaoping?s statement that ±development is a hard truth increasingly conveys the logic of our contemporary world

"Trasmundi combines her background as a cognitive ethnographer with theory of radical embodied cognition and interaction to investigate how healthcare practitioners manage cognitive events in patient treatment and diagnosing that often lead to human errors. This interdisciplinary focus emphasises how professional action underlines various forms of cognitive and social life that involves language, tools, organisational procedures, shared expertise, cultural values and social rules. The book investigates such phenomena which previously have fallen in the gaps between established disciplines of interaction analysis and psychology. In arguing that the multi-scalar constraints of professional action are still underexplored in a naturalistic setting of emergency medicine, Trasmundi uses tools such as multimodal interaction analysis and cognitive event analysis to investigate the cultural and distributed nature of cognition. The book provides the reader with a new take on this heavily investigated topic, both theoretically and methodologically by describing how medical culture affects real-time interaction and how culture itself is shaped by the exact same dynamics"--

The risk assessment approach described in this monograph applies only to essential trace elements (ETEs) involved in human health and not to non-essential elements. The purpose of this monograph is to provide the scientific principles that support the concept of an ''acceptable range of oral intake'' (AROI), which uses a ''homeostatic model'' for determining the range of dietary intakes for essential trace elements (ETEs) that meet the nutritional requirements of a healthy population and avoid excess intakes. To facilitate comparisons, AROIs are discussed in relation to other risk assessment a
