This book was originated within the research environment Architecture of Embodiment, which inquires into architecture from an enactivist perspective and through aesthetic practices. This research environment does not primarily aim to formulate answers to its main research question—how does architecture condition the emergence of sense?—but to provide the adequate conceptual, methodological, and communicative conditions to address it. Ultimately, it aims to destabilize its objects of research in order to disclose new intelligibilities of the issues under inquiry. In this sense, Architecture of Embodiment intends to fulfil a fundamental cognitive function of research through aesthetic practices. The pluralized word “architectures” in the title of this book refers to conceptual rather than material constructions relating to fundamental aspects of architecture and research. Architectures of Embodiment is a constellation of coexisting autonomous artifacts: texts by Alex Arteaga, Mika Elo, Ana García Varas, Lidia Gasperoni, Jonathan Hale, Susanne Hauser, Dieter Mersch and Gerard Vilar in dialogue with one another through comments and comments on the comments. It is conceived as a dialogical research dispositive: an invitation to participate in an open ended process of research within a growing ecology of research practices.

Architecture in Effect' is a substantial collection of essays emerging from the Swedish research environment of the same name. While it takes its point of departure from within the specific context that is Sweden, it includes contributions from authors based in the Nordic context, in the United Kingdom, Europe and the United States. A central premise of the collected research is that the built environment and societal norms are co-constitutive and that architecture as a discipline and as a professional practice plays a fundamental role in this relationship. Contemporary political and environmental conditions place specific demands on society and on the everyday life of individuals. There persists, as such, an obligation for actors within the discipline of architecture to contribute to a rethinking of the situated knowledges within architecture by engaging in trans-, cross-, and inter-disciplinary studies. Architectural researchers have the capacity to guide and criticize thinking on architecture and its vital material relations amidst existing and emerging societies.

Team 10, 1953-1981 brings together the complete history of this influential European architectural fellowship for the first time, delving into hitherto closed collections and archives, and bringing readers formerly unavailable documents and the insights that come with them. From the mid-1950s well into the 1970s, the ongoing debate on Modern architecture and the city found new life in this crowd of young architects spun off from Le Corbusier's influential Congrès Internationaux d'Architecture Moderne (CIAM). The members of Team 10 had assembled as a subgroup within CIAM, but soon began to hold their own meetings. Their lively crowd--which included Dutch architects Aldo van Eyck and Jaap Bakema, Alison and Peter Smithson from the UK, Giancarlo de Carlo from Italy, and Georges Candilis and Shadrach Woods from France--debated the architect's role in issues of modernization, the welfare state and consumer society. Their influential and inspiring exchanges were often sparked by the members' also influential and inspiring projects. Team 10 left a body of thought and work that still speaks to architectural practice today, and will for generations. Team 10, 1953-1981 opens with an abundantly illustrated survey of the group's meetings, events, and projects, includes essays from leading scholars on its work and its legacy, and concludes with a series of interviews with former Team 10 members--an unparalleled self-portrait of the group.
