Mais la manière dont les classes populaires se pensent et se vivent dépend de la manière dont elles sont pensées et parlées par ceux qui ont le pouvoir de définir les places et les parts, par les élites. La Nature du peuple est donc également une histoire intellectuelle des types de discours (académiques, moralisants, discours de l’économie politique naissante…) et des types de porteurs du discours sur les catégories sociales ?
