Motor functions such as muscle strength and joint range of motion as well as somatosensory functions that enable a person to interpret bodily sensation are necessary and important for physical activity and exercise. Somatosensory and Motor Research is divided into three sections: "Somatosensory Research," "Motor Research," and "Relationship between Somatosensory and Motor Research." Written by researchers and experts in the field, chapters in this volume address basic anatomy and physiology, treatment of sensory disorders, motor function, and somatic sensations. This book contributes to the understanding of both motor nerve and sensory nerve function and their involvement in the acquisition of movement.

This book is an interdisciplinary guide to empirical research on nonverbal behaviour. It focuses on tools and procedures to investigate body movement and gesture and the relation to cognitive, emotional, and interactive processes. NEUROGES is an objective and reliable coding system for movement behaviour and gesture. Its combination with the multi-media annotation tool ELAN results in an effective movement analysis. Rater training and rating procedures constitute an important component in movement behaviour studies. A novel algorithm assesses interrater agreement for the segmentation of the on

This expanded second edition carries forward the initial insights into the biological and existential significances of animation by taking contemporary research findings in cognitive science and philosophy and in neuroscience into critical and constructive account. It first takes affectivity as its focal point, elucidating it within both an enactive and qualitative affective-kinetic dynamic. It follows through with a thoroughgoing interdisciplinary inquiry into movement from three perspectives: mind, brain, and the conceptually reciprocal realities of receptivity and responsiv

Interest in the concept of time has a long history and has been a topic of study for a wide range of investigators. No change can take place without specification of time. While philosophers and physicists have been intrigued by the concept of subjective perception of time and its relationship to real time, natural scientists have been concerned mainly with investigating time as a factor in understanding the behaviour of animals from the migratory habits of birds to the periodical breeding cycles. The immense bulk of temporal perception studies, the variety of approaches, methods of measuremen
