This eBook is a collection of articles from a Frontiers Research Topic. Frontiers Research Topics are very popular trademarks of the Frontiers Journals Series: they are collections of at least ten articles, all centered on a particular subject. With their unique mix of varied contributions from Original Research to Review Articles, Frontiers Research Topics unify the most influential researchers, the latest key findings and historical advances in a hot research area! Find out more on how to host your own Frontiers Research Topic or contribute to one as an author by contacting the Frontiers Editorial Office: frontiersin.org/about/contact

This book is divided into four sections. The first section ""Introduction"" offers information on mollusc generalities. In addition, these organisms are important in areas of commercial significance such as aquaculture and fishing. Similarly, it was pointed out in the use of molluscs have uses in pollution studies and environmental processes among others. The second section ""Social Aspects of Fisheries"" considers aspects of molluscs gathering in tropical regions. The third section ""Ecology"" presents the results of long-term research concerning the study of variability of the size/mass relationships in the mollusc Rapana venosa from the northwestern part of the Black Sea and near the eastern coast of Crimea (Sudak Gulf). The fourth section ""Immune System"" sheds light on the elements of the molluscan immune system and survival differences against Vibrio vulnificus and Vibrio parahaemolyticus. This book can be consulted by students, professors, and researchers in biological sciences and related areas.

This book provides an overview of the XI International Congress on Medical and Applied Malacology: ""Crossing Boundaries: Integrative Approaches to Malacology"". The event was held at the State University of Rio de Janeiro between the 25th and 29th of September 2012. A number of the plenary lecturers from the conference were invited to contribute their papers to these proceedings, as were speakers whose papers were eligible for student awards. The volume contains articles on bioprospecting met...

The Journal of Molluscan Studies is the major international journal covering the biology of molluscs. The journal features the newly developing subjects of molecular genetics, cladistic phylogenetics and ecophysiology, but also maintains coverage of ecological, behavioural and systematic malacology.

Marine molluscs are very promising candidates for a wide range of biotechnological applications. For example, they possess analgesic drugs more potent than morphine and very effective anticancer agents. The present book gives an up-to-date overview of the main classes of bioactive compounds from molluscs, moving from ecological observations, to chemical characterization, to biosynthesis, to large-scale synthesis, and to pharmacological applications. A truly outstanding international panel of experts from all continents provides complete coverage of the most stimulating topics related to molluscs. This knowledge of their history and current studies provides an open door to the future.

Aquaculture Pathophysiology, Volume II. Crustacean and Molluscan Diseases is a concise, practical reference on shellfish diseases of significant risk to aquaculture. Its value to the veterinarian, fish health biologist or extensionist, fish pathologist and fish health diagnostician is its easy reach for critical information on the diagnosis and management of significant infectious and non-infectious diseases for the major temperate, subtropical and tropical shellfish species of commercial and fisheries importance.
