Het boek behandelt de verschillende technologieën die beschikbaar zijn om duurzame energie te benutten. Aan de orde komen zonne-energie, windenergie, waterkracht, bio-energie, omgevingswarmte en aardwarmte. Het potentieel van deze duurzame energiebronnen wordt geschetst, zowel mondiaal als meer specifiek voor Nederland en België. Ook wordt ingegaan op de systeemaspecten van een duurzame energievoorziening, waarbij energieopslag en secundaire conversie via brandstofcellen worden behandeld. Elektrische energie geeft een overzicht van het elektrisch energiesysteem. Aan de basis hiervan ligt een wiskundige formulering van wisselstroom bij één- en driefasige systemen. Elektriciteit wordt zowel in grotere centrales als gedecentraliseerd opgewekt en bereikt de eindgebruiker via het transmissie- en distributienet. In een geliberaliseerde energiemarkt zijn hierbij verschillende partijen betrokken. Transformatoren spelen in deze netten een belangrijke rol. In dit tweede deel van het studieboek komen de belangrijke groepen elektrische verbruikers aan bod: motoren, al dan niet toerental geregeld, verlichtingstechnologie en elektromagnetische materiaalverwerking. Naast de basiselementen van de fysische werking, worden steeds de elektrische karakteristieken afgeleid. De interactie van de vermogenelektronische interface met het elektriciteitsnet vormt een essentieel onderdeel met het oog op rationeel energiegebruik. Toegepaste Energieleer - wartme en stromingsleer behandelt de natuurkundige basis die nodig is om processen waarin energieomzetting en -transport plaatsvindt te analyseren. In dit boek worden zowel de warmteleer, de stromingsleer als het warmtetransport behandeld. Er is dus slechts één studieboek nodig die deze onderwerpen - in samenhang - behandelen. In de hoofdstukken over warmteleer komen de ideale gaswetten, omkeerbare en onomkeerbare toestandsveranderingen, kringprocessen en open systemen aan bod. De hoofdstukken van de stromingsleer behandelen stroming (van gas en vloeistof) in buizen en om lichamen in zowel stationaire als instationaire systemen. In de hoofdstukken over warmtetransport worden zowel stationaire als instationaire warmtetransportproblemen behandeld waarbij nader ingegaan wordt op de bepaling van warmteoverdrachtscoëfficiënten en het oplossen van stralingsnetwerken.
