Petroleum crude oil is the main energy source worldwide. However, global fossil fuel resources and reservoirs are rapidly and disturbingly being depleted. Thus, it is particularly important to shed light on new techniques developed for economic production and better utilization of crude oil. In addition, the processes involved in the production, refining, and transportation of crude oil are environmentally hazardous. It is essential to develop cleaner technologies and to find innovative solutions to overcome these problems. Over four sections, this book discusses materials used in cracking crude oil and improving its specifications, methods for reducing or eliminating the hazardous effects of petroleum pollution, and the environmental effects of crude oil, as well as presents case studies from different countries.

The Baltic International Conferences on Materials Engineering and Tribology were initiated 19 years ago and focus on materials issues and tribological studies. During this period, BALTMATTRIB has become an open forum where researchers and engineers can exchange ideas, share thoughts and encourage development and cooperation in both basic and applied research in the fields of materials science, powder metallurgy, surface engineering and tribology. Review from Book News Inc.: Recently developments in advanced materials and technologies, coatings and surface engineering, characterizing material,

Lubricants are essential in engineering, however more sustainable formulations are needed to avoid adverse effects on the ecosystem. Bio-based lubricant formulations present a promising solution. Biolubricants: Science and technology is a comprehensive, interdisciplinary and timely review of this important subject.Initial chapters address the principles of lubrication, before systematically reviewing fossil and bio-based feedstock resources for biodegradable lubricants. Further chapters describe catalytic, (bio) chemical functionalisation processes for transformation of feedstocks into

Mechanics of Coatings was chosen as the topic for the 16th Leeds-Lyon Symposium, as it was decided to be a timely opportunity to bring together experts of many disciplines connected with coatings to find ways of extending the industrial use of these coatings particularly in the field of tribology. The volume contains 51 papers divided into 20 sessions.
