Abstract

This book mainly investigates the adsorption of anionic diclofenac sodium on natural clay minerals, the adsorption of anionic chloramphenicol on natural clay minerals and the behavior of surface and interface modification or adsorption on clay minerals. It has significant guidance for learning the transfer and fate of pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) in the soil. It develops an efficient, low-cost adsorbent material and provides theoretical basis and valuable reference for the effective prevention of groundwater contamination of PPCPs in the field of environmental engineering.

Abstract

This book covers the development of sources of negative ions and their application in science and industry. It describes the physical foundations and implementation of the key methods of negative ion production and control, such as charge exchange, thermionic emission, secondary emission (sputtering) and surface-plasma sources, as well as the history of their development. Following on from this essential foundational material, the book goes on to explore transport of negative ion beams, and beam-plasma instabilities. With exposition accessible at the graduate level, and a comprehensive bibliography, this book will appeal to all students and researchers whose work concerns ion sources and their applications to accelerators, beam physics, storage rings, cyclotrons, and plasma traps. .

Abstract

The chemistry of materials containing Se oxyanions in the +4 oxidation state, such as selenite, hydrogenselenite, and oxoselenate, are of increasing interest in the research community for several reasons. First, the lone pair on the selenium atom can behave as structure-directing agent towards the formation of materials characterized by the presence of hollows or channels in their intimate structures, moreover, the weakly coordinative capability of the Se(IV) electron lone pairs could give rise to interesting supramolecular interactions, and finally, it is known that the incorporation of selenite anions can lead to non-centrosymmetric structures and, consequently, to materials displaying remarkable physicochemical properties. The most important feature is that the full comprehension of the properties of this type of materials cannot be exhaustively understood unless the complete solid state crystal structure is available. In this Special Issue, entitled “Crystal Structures of Compounds Containing Ions Selenite”, a series of new selenite-containing compounds synthesized by different methodologies and fully caracterized in the solid state is reported. Moreover the fundamental role of detailed structural analysis in understanding the interactions in the solid state that are responsible for the peculiar chemical–physical properties of such materials is discussed.

Abstract

The interaction of ionising radiation with atomic and/or molecular ions is a fundamental process in nature, with implications for the understanding of many laboratory and astrophysical plasmas. At short wavelengths, the photon–ion interactions lead to inner-shell and multiple electron excitations, leading to demands on appropriate laboratory developments of sources and detectors and requiring advanced theoretical treatments which take into account many-body electron-correlation effects. This book includes a range of papers based on different short wavelength photon sources including recent facility and instrumental developments. Topics include experimental photoabsorption studies with laser-produced plasmas and photoionization of atomic and molecular ions with synchrotron and FEL sources, including modifications of a cylindrical mirror analyzer for high efficiency photoelectron spectroscopy on ion beams. Theoretical investigations include the effects of FEL fluctuations on autoionization line shapes, multiple sequential ionization by intense fs XUV pulses, photoelectron angular distributions for non-resonant two-photon ionization, inner-shell photodetachment of Na- and spin-polarized fluxes from fullerene anions.

Abstract

Most books discuss general and broad topics regarding molecular imagings. However, Ultrasmall Lanthanide Oxide Nanoparticles for Biomedical Imaging and Therapy, will mainly focus on lanthanide oxide nanoparticles for molecular imaging and therapeutics. Multi-modal imaging capabilities will discussed, along with up-converting FI by using lanthanide oxide nanoparticles. The synthesis will cover polyol synthesis of lanthanide oxide nanoparticles, Surface coatings with biocompatible and hydrophilic ligands will be discussed and TEM images and dynamic light scattering (DLS) patterns will be provid
