In A History of Canadian Economic Thought, Robin Neill relates the evolution of economic theory in Canada to the particular geographical and political features of the country. Whilst there were distinctively Canadian economic discourses in nineteenth-century Ontario and early twentieth-century Quebec, Neill argues that these have now been absorbed into the broader North American mainstream. He also examines the nature and importance of the staple theory controversy and its appositeness for the Canadian case. With full accounts of the work of major Canadian economists including John Ra

"Human passion was Samuel Richardson's great theme. His novels reveal the conflict of human passion in all its aspects - love, lust, and suffering - and the attempt to achieve a virtuous existence. In Passion and Virtue, this conflict is considered and critically analysed in fourteen essays, all originally published in Eighteenth-Century Fiction, the leading journal for the analysis of fiction from this period."--Jacket.

In 2004, the first same-sex couple legally married in Quebec. How did homosexuality an act that had for centuries been defined as abominable and criminal come to be sanctioned by law? Judging Homosexuals finds answers in a comparative analysis of gay persecution in France and Quebec, places that share a common culture but have diverging legal traditions. In both settings, Patrice Corriveau explores how various groups family and clergy, doctors and jurists tried to manage people who were defined in turn as sinners, as criminals, as inverts, and as citizens to be protected by law. By bringing to light the various discourses that have over time supported the control and persecution of individual homoerotic behaviour in France and Quebec, this book makes the case that when it came to managing sexuality, the law helped construct the crime.
