Although the copper axes with central shaft-hole from south-eastern Europe have a long history of research, they have not been studied on a transnational basis since the 1960s. What has also been missing, is trying to use as many methods as possible to better understand their production, use and context.

This volume examines continuities and new developments in the conduct of warfare in early modern Eastern Europe from the early sixteenth century, when Ottoman imperial expansion reached the Danube and Crimea, to the late eighteenth century, when the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth was partitioned out of existence and Russia rolled back Ottoman power from Ukraine and Moldavia. Contributors include specialists in Russian, Polish, Ottoman, Habsburg, Cossack, and Crimean Tatar history. The essays engage military history understood in the broadest sense and treat such subjects as taxation, recruitment, the sociology and culture of officer corps, logistics, command-and-control, and ideology as well as technology and tactics. The volume aims at facilitating comparative study of Eastern European military development across Eastern Europe and its points of divergence from military practice in the West. Contributors are Virginia H. Aksan, Brian J. Boeck, Peter B. Brown, Brian Davies, Dariusz Kupisz, Erik Lund, Janet Martin, Oleg Nozdrin, Victor Ostapchuk, Geza Palffy and Carol Belkin Stevens.

It is beyond any doubt that we live at a fast space. Digital media, experience economy, beacons, artificial intelligence, robotics, etc., modify business landscape and sources of competitive advantage. For a long time, both theorists and practitioners have been looking for a golden formula that would let them create a recipe for success. The main aim of this publication is the present the universal model of building business success in our hectic times. The author built the idea of "four-leaf clover" based on the experience of companies competing in both the developed and emerging markets (especially Eastern Europe). It seems to be the first publication in which such comparisons have been made. The formula is neither limited to one type of organization or market, nor has any geographical borders. Moreover, the formula has both universal and utilitarian character. the concept of the "four-leaf clover" enables the reader to understand the sources of success of companies such as mBank (part of Commerzbank), Aflofarm, Atlas, Redam Sphinx and others, which operate in the Eastern European markets and confront them with the ways organizations in developed markets compete. This book will be useful to managers, marketers, business leaders who want to compare their experiences with successful companies who have followed the four-leaf clover model. This book is for practitioners who are looking for a historic and systematic approach to business management as well as those who are interested in translating concept and strategy into daily activities.
