The Fourth International Conference on Signal-Image Technology & Internet-Based S- tems (SITIS 2008) has been successfully held during the period 30th November to 3rd of December of the year 2008 in Bali, Indonesia. The Track Web-Based Information Te- nologies & Distributed Systems (WITDS) is one of the four tracks of the conference. The track is devoted to emerging and novel concepts, architectures and methodologies for c- ating an interconnected world in which information can be exchanged easily, tasks can be processed collaboratively, and communities of users with similar interests can be formed while addressing security threats that are present more than ever before. The track has attracted a large number of submissions; only ?fteen papers have been accepted with - ceptance rate 27%. After the successful presentations of the papers during the conference, the track chairs have agreed with Atlantis publisher to publish the extended versions of the papers in a book. Each paper has been extended with a minimum of 30% new materials from its original conference manuscript. This book contains these extendedversions as chaptersafter a second roundof reviews and improvement. The book is an excellent resource of information to researchers and it is based on four themes; the ?rst theme is on advances in ad-hoc and routing protocols, the second theme focuses on the latest techniques and methods on intelligent systems, the third theme is a latest trend in Security and Policies, and the last theme is applications of algorithms design methodologies on web based systems.

The International Symposium on Distributed Computing and Artificial Intelli-gence (DCAI´10) is an annual forum that brings together past experience, current work and promising future trends associated with distributed computing, artificial intelligence and their application to provide efficient solutions to real problems. The present edition has been held at the Polytechnic University of Valencia, from 7 to 10 September 2010, within the Congreso Español de Informática (CEDI 2010). Technology transfer in this field is still a challenge, with a large gap between academic research and industrial products. This edition of DCAI aims at contributing to reduce this gap, with a stimulating and productive forum where these communities can work towards future cooperation with social and economi-cal benefits.

The renaissance of internet has reached the mainstream that is named as Web 2.0. People are now using the web to build things they have never thought of earlier. Experts take a step forward to what we contribute, and extend it and give back to the society, i.e. really the boon of internet computing. It has revolutionized the current business environment, not as a mere computing tool, but offers versatile services and increase the productive flow of information. It is a new dimension in computing systems by which companies can curtail their operating expenses, by hosting and operating through the internet. Now the users can access the required information by means of any device connected with an internet. The challenge ahead for implementing this versatile system is that the software and technology has to be developed and deployed simultaneously vis-a-vis safeguarding the security and privacy of information. This book encompasses various research and developments in Internet technology and put in the context of New Paradigms in Internet Computing. This includes chapters from academic research community as well as industry experts in the area of business models based on Software, Protocols, Supply Chain Management, Security and also Cloud Computing.

Nearly everyone knows K-means algorithm in the fields of data mining and business intelligence. But the ever-emerging data with extremely complicated characteristics bring new challenges to this "old" algorithm. This book addresses these challenges and makes novel contributions in establishing theoretical frameworks for K-means distances and K-means based consensus clustering, identifying the "dangerous" uniform effect and zero-value dilemma of K-means, adapting right measures for cluster validity, and integrating K-means with SVMs for rare class analysis. This book not only enriches the clustering and optimization theories, but also provides good guidance for the practical use of K-means, especially for important tasks such as network intrusion detection and credit fraud prediction. The thesis on which this book is based has won the "2010 National Excellent Doctoral Dissertation Award", the highest honor for not more than 100 PhD theses per year in China.

DAPSY (Austrian-Hungarian Workshop on Distributed and Parallel Systems) is an international conference series with biannual events dedicated to all aspects of distributed and parallel computing. DAPSY started under a different name in 1992 (Sopron, Hungary) as regional meeting of Austrian and Hungarian researchers focusing on transputer-related parallel computing; a hot research topic of that time. A second workshop followed in 1994 (Budapest, Hungary). As transputers became history, the scope of the workshop widened to include parallel and distributed systems in general and the 1st DAPSYS in 1996 (Miskolc, Hungary) reflected the results of these changes. Distributed and Parallel Systems: Cluster and Grid Computing is an edited volume based on DAPSYS, 2004, the 5th Austrian-Hungarian Workshop on Distributed and Parallel Systems. The workshop was held in conjunction with EuroPVM/MPI-2004, Budapest, Hungary September 19-22, 2004. Distributed and Parallel Systems: Cluster and Grid Computing is designed for a professional audience, composed of researchers and practitioners in industry. This book is also suitable for graduate-level students in computer science.
