This artist's book id the culmination of Hans Op de Beeck's long-term project 'Sea of Tranquillity'. The publication includes film stills, texts, sculptures, watercolours and even a soundtrack (sung by Sandrine). In his familiar pictorial style mildly surreal and resolutely critical the artist confronts us with a large-scale but fictional luxury cruise-ship. This artificial city symbolizes a postmodern society in which extreme luxury is accompanied by a moral vacuum. On board we do not only meet Eros and Thanatos, but also boredom, miscommunication and a hierarchical crew.

Deze publicatie begeleidt de gelijknamige tentoonstelling (Leuven, 15 april - 11 juni 2011) die deel uitmaakte van het publicatie- en tentoonstellingsproject "Vlaamse migranten in Wallonië, 1850-2000". Door middel van foto's, waarvan u in dit boekje een selectie vindt, wou Kadoc het rijke verenigingsleven van migranten in Vlaanderen in beeld brengen. Daarvoor werkte het samen met de studenten fotografie van de Hogeschool Sint-Lukas in Brussel.
