Dans le sport, l'innovation s'impose de façon non équivoque, au moins en comparaison avec d'autres domaines de la vie sociale. La maîtrise de l'innovation - qu'elle soit ou non technique - et l'obligation de maintenir la recherche de solutions nouvelles sont bien des facteurs d'accès indispensables à la réussite sportive. Des chercheurs en sociologie, histoire économique, management et gestion des entreprises, sciences du sport et communication, ont confronté leurs travaux sur l'évolution de sports aussi divers que l'aviron à ses débuts, le rugby amateur ou professionnel, le football, la voile de compétition, le surf et les sports de glisse en Aquitaine, avec un grand crochet par la Martinique pour les compétitions de yoles martiniquaises… Ils examinent les conditions d'émergence et les multiples configurations que peut prendre l'innovation. Ils dégagent la morphologie des processus d'innovation également étudiés sous l'angle des politiques publiques territoriales et au sein d'associations sportives ou de clubs omnisports marqués depuis peu par des phénomènes de professionnalisation.

Hoe ons digitaal gedrag ons leven bepaalt. Deskundigen voorspellen dat tegen 2015 zo'n 80 procent van de wereldbevolking een smartphone, tablet-pc of laptop zal hebben. Meer dan een op twee inwoners van West-Europa en Noord-Amerika maakt er nu al dagelijks gebruik van. Dat wil meteen ook zeggen dat zij elke dag 24 uur op 24 online zijn. Dr. Larry D. Rosen argumenteert dat de overvloed aan informatie waar wij dagelijks mee worden geconfronteerd niet gezond is voor ons geestelijk welzijn. Zo vertoont het gedrag van smartphonejunks en patiënten met een obsessief-compulsieve stoornis veel gelijkenissen. Tieners posten hun doen en laten op Facebook, veertigers speuren het internet af op zoek naar tekst en uitleg over huidvlekken, ook al kregen ze van hun dermatoloog te horen dat ze zich geen zorgen hoeven te maken. Het zijn maar enkele voorbeelden. Gelukkig hoeft technologie ons leven niet te bepalen. De auteur drukt ons met de neus op de feiten, maar toont ons ook hoe we opnieuw een evenwicht kunnen bereiken tussen het gebruik van digitale media en menswaardig gedrag. Dr. Larry D. Rosen is professor Psychologie aan de California State University. Hij is een internationaal erkend expert in technologische psychologie. Reeds 25 jaar bestudeert hij het gebruik van nieuwe media bij zowel kinderen, studenten als volwassenen. À n’en pas douter, nous sommes en train de connaître l’une des mutations les plus importantes de nos sociétés, depuis les grandes inventions qui ont marqué l’ère industrielle et l’émergence de l’informatique, et ce, grâce à la connexion, puis l’interconnexion, des différents éléments du monde qui nous entoure. Après avoir d’abord cherché à nous connecter les uns aux autres, grâce à des moyens de transport de plus en plus performants et rapides, puis en réduisant le temps nécessaire à la circulation de l’information, grâce au remplacement quasiment généralisé maintenant de l’écrit papier et manuscrit par l’écrit numérique, c’est au tour des objets de se connecter, d’abord à nous, au moyen des outils de communication et, maintenant entre eux, au moyen des réseaux de communications électroniques et des algorithmes de plus en plus sophistiqués dont ils sont dotés. Les objets deviennent capables de prises de décisions autonomes ; ils sont capables d’arbitrer entre plusieurs solutions possibles et, dans un certain nombre de cas et d’applications, de le faire mieux qu’un être humain placé dans la même situation qu’eux, soit parce qu’ils sont plus rapides dans l’analyse et les solutions à mettre en œuvre, soit qu’ils sont plus habiles que l’homme lui-même. Or, toutes ces évolutions sont extrêmement gourmandes en ressources notamment dans le secteur des télécoms. Comment ce secteur s’est-il préparé à cette déferlante ? Quelles conséquences organisationnelles, légales, réglementaires, cette multiplication des objets connectés et communicants a-t-elle ? C’est notamment à ces questions que cherche à répondre cet ouvrage.
