Abstract

This book presents the topics of major importance toward understanding the most feared failure mode in composite laminates, namely delamination. There are few books at present that describe the phenomenon of composite laminate failure by delamination in such detail.Written by pioneers and principal researchers in various aspects of composite delamination, starting from basic principles to the most current research findings, the work provides a complete study of the theoretical and experimental aspects of composite delamination in one volume.

Abstract

This book is the consequence of research undertaken by the authors in the field of advanced problems of structural mechanics. Stability analysis of structures comes under this area because of the complex models and computational methods needed for analysis. In the mid seventies, a joint effort began between a group of researchers and teachers of the Department of Civil Engineering and Computer Center of the Cracow University of Technology. One of the important results of the collaboration has been this publication.

Abstract

Part of the new series, Advanced Topics in Science and Technology in China, this book is designed to give the necessary theoretical foundation to new users of the finite element method in implant dentistry, and show how both the implant dentist and designer can benefit from finite element analysis. The first part deals with the theory of the finite element method. containing the necessary mathematical theory but written so that readers from a dental background can easily understand. Then basic knowledge of implant dentistry is introduced to readers from an engineering background. Next, dental implant applications, and the critical issues of using finite element analysis for dental implants are discussed, followed by aspects of dental implant modeling. Finally, two popular commercial finite element software programs, ANSYS and ABACUS, are introduced for dental finite element analysis. Dr J.P. Geng is a professional implant dentist and has been an implant designer for 15 years.

Abstract

Many processes in materials science and engineering, such as the load deformation behaviour of certain structures, exhibit nonlinear characteristics. The computer simulation of such processes therefore requires a deep understanding of both the theoretical aspects of nonlinearity and the associated computational techniques. This book provides a complete set of exercises and solutions in the field of theoretical and computational nonlinear continuum mechanics and is the perfect companion to Nonlinear Continuum Mechanics for Finite Element Analysis, where the authors set out the theoretical foundations of the subject. It employs notation consistent with the theory book and serves as a great resource to students, researchers and those in industry interested in gaining confidence by practising through examples. Instructors of the subject will also find the book indispensable in aiding student learning.

Abstract

The objective of this book is to analyze within reasonable limits (it is not a treatise) the basic mathematical aspects of the finite element method. The book should also serve as an introduction to current research on this subject. On the one hand, it is also intended to be a working textbook for advanced courses in Numerical Analysis, as typically taught in graduate courses in American and French universities. For example, it is the author’s experience that a one-semester course (on a three-hour per week basis) can be taught from Chapters 1, 2 and 3 (with the exception of Section 3.3), while another one-semester course can be taught from Chapters 4 and 6. On the other hand, it is hoped that this book will prove to be useful for researchers interested in advanced aspects of the numerical analysis of the finite element method. In this respect, Section 3.3, Chapters 5, 7 and 8, and the sections on "Additional Bibliography and Comments" should provide many suggestions for conducting seminars.

Abstract

This key text is written for senior undergraduate and graduate engineering students. It delivers a complete introduction to finite element methods and to automatic adaptation (error estimation) that will enable students to understand and use FEA as a true engineering tool. It has been specifically developed to be accessible to non-mathematics students and provides the only complete text for FEA with error estimators for non-mathematicians. Error estimation is taught on nearly half of all FEM courses for engineers at senior undergraduate and postgraduate level; no other existing textbook for th
