Abstract

A major turning point in the recent history of Jordan, the legislative elections of 1989, by the reactivation of parliamentary institutions and the use of popular consultation which they entailed, put an end to the political status quo and the absence of life democracy decided by the Hashemite monarchy after the third Arab-Israeli war of 1967.In this thesis of DEA of Political Sciences published in Cahiers du Cermoc , Pascaline Eury returns to this episode by starting by recalling its general context and the debates which preceded its implementation. It then analyzes the stakes and the course of an electoral campaign during which parties with opposing opinions were able to clash. The winners of this election were undoubtedly the Muslim Brotherhood who, by succeeding in mobilizing around them populations of different origins and social class, established themselves as a real force of opposition to the power of King Hussein.
