The book presents basic studies on ion transport properties of ionic conductive solid. It describes research on theory, modeling, simulation, crystalline structure, nuclear magnetic resonance, electric conduction, optical properties, and thermal measurement in this field. Superionic conductors are highly promising functional materials. As a stepping stone in the development of new superionic conductors that can be utilized as functional materials efforts to reevaluate solid-interior diffusion and conduction phenomena of ions and molecules in a superionic conductor on the basis of basic physical...

How relevant is classical music today? The genre seems in danger of becoming nothing more than a hobby for the social elite. Yet Kent Nagano has another world in mind – one where everyone has access to classical music. In Classical Music: Expect the Unexpected the world-famous classical conductor tells the deeply personal story of his own engagement with the masterpieces and great composers of classical music, his work with the world's major orchestras, and his tireless commitment to bringing his music to everybody. Narrating his first childhood encounters with music's power to overcome social and ethnic boundaries, he celebrates an art form that has always taken part in debates about human values and societal developments. The constantly declining relevance of classical music in these disrupted times, he argues, not only impoverishes society from a cultural perspective but robs it of inspiration, wit, emotional depth, and a sense of community. Getting to grips with classical music's existential crisis, Nagano contends that it is too crucial to humanity's survival to be allowed to silently disappear from our everyday reality. In this moving autobiography, Kent Nagano makes a compelling plea for classical music that is as exhilarating as it is thought-provoking.

A mesmerizing figure in concert, Charles Munch was celebrated for his electrifying public performances. He was a pioneer in many arenas of classical music--establishing Berlioz in the canon, perfecting the orchestral work of Debussy and Ravel, and leading the world to Roussel, Honegger, and Dutilleux. A pivotal figure, his accomplishments put him on a par with Arturo Toscanini and Leonard Bernstein. In Charles Munch, D. Kern Holoman provides the first full biography of this giant of twentieth-century music, tracing his dramatic survival in occupied Paris, his triumphant arrival at the Boston S

Electric motors are widely used in industries to convert electrical energy into mechanical form. Control techniques are designed to improve the performance and efficiency of the drive so that large amounts of electrical energy can be saved. This book is primarily written with the objective of providing necessary information on use of electric motors for various applications in industries. During the last ten years a number of methods of control of electric drives have emerged. Some of these methods are described in this book. The reader will be able to understand the new methods of control used in drives, e.g. direct and sensorless control. Also the application of motor control in dentistry, the effect of human reaction and improvement of the efficiency of drives with control have been described.

This book is a collection of papers by individuals in industry and academia on research and application development of conductive polymers and plastics. Conductive plastics are positioned to play an increasingly important role in affairs of mankind, specifically in the area of electrical and electronic conductivity. While general knowledge about conductive polymers and plastics has been available for many years, a true understanding of their application has only taken place in the last 3 to 4 years. This is attributed to advances in materials and processing techniques. Engineers have o
