Abstract

IFC supports the tourism industry because of its strong development impact. It is easily accessible to rural entrepreneurs, allows for local approaches and products, has a bias towards female participation, and enables excellent supply-chain linkages. Our activities in tourism are aimed at promoting private sector-investments leading to sustainable and inclusive growth. In Nepal, tourism development also enables the creation of cultural, adventure, and sightseeing experiences that have appeal and significance among its established global, loyal market of visitors-ranging from pilgrims to mountaineers, hikers, and wellness and sightseeing travelers. But the COVID-19 pandemic has hit the tourism industry especially hard. The potential loss to the country's GDP from the collapse of tourism activities is estimated at $460 million. Around 230,000 jobs are at risk; 20,000 tour and trekking guides are unemployed, and 2,600 trekking agencies are closed, some maybe permanently. Now, as outbound markets begin to show signs of recovery, it is time to implement strategic adjustments to Nepal's tourism sector and implement policies that will align the destination with the new market reality.

Abstract

"Written by Fortune 100 executive Dan Gallagher, The Self-Aware Leader is a unique approach on how to become a more effective leader by increasing self-awareness in four pillars of leadership. By integrating the concepts of reinvention, servant leadership, and business transformation into a single framework that has been validated in research, The Self-Aware Leader emphasizes taking a calculated approach to change rather than merely reacting to change. The Self-Aware Leader also helps readers recognize three basic truths which are crucial to success within organizations: approaches to management have a shelf life; middle managers are frequently caught between a rock and a hard place ; and, with conservatism on the rise, becoming and remaining an effective leader is extremely complex. This book offers two key takeaways; (1) a new mental framework on leadership more appropriate for today s business conditions; and (2) a functional, practical plan for putting the newly learned concepts presented into daily practice."--Www.amazon.com description.

Abstract

Get leadership-fit and see results in yourself and others. Leadership and fitness are both journeys of self-discovery. Both require self-awareness, passion, and commitment. Both have the potential to inspire others. And for both, results come only with effort. To achieve great heights, you must be willing to take the first step, put in the work, and overcome the inevitable obstacles. In Peak Leadership Fitness: Elevating Your Leadership Game , leadership coach and fitness expert Timothy J. Tobin invites you to share the lessons he’s learned at the intersection of physical and leadership fitness. With the encouraging style of a trainer-coach, Tobin shares his four fitness principles: You never know what you’re capable of until you take that first step. You must put in the effort. You learn more about yourself when times are tough. What you consume matters. Tobin describes the foundations for leadership fitness, including motivation and mindset, and details his steps to becoming leadership-fit. From taking your pulse to seeking recovery by building endurance, Tobin employs fitness metaphors while remaining aware of the critical difference between personal fitness and leadership—the stakes are much higher with leadership. This book was written for today’s and tomorrow’s leaders facing today’s challenges—time constraints, overcrowded leadership development landscape, and uncertainty about where to start. It is grounded in learning and development and leadership research and illustrated with true-to-life vignettes, sample leadership fitness plans, templates, and tip sheets. Tobin points out the opportunities for leadership development that are all around you—you just need to know where to look and how to integrate the activities into your regular routine. Train smart; train often. Build good habits. Develop yourself and others. You’ve got this!

Abstract

Succeed in Any Culture, in Every Situation In today's global economy, the ability to interact effectively across cultures is a fundamental job requirement for just about everyone. But it's impossible to learn the customs and traits of every single culture. David Thomas and Kerr Inkson present a universal set of techniques and people skills that will allow you to adapt quickly to, and thrive in, any cultural environment. You'll learn to discard your own culturally based assumptions and pay careful attention, in a mindful and creative way, to cues in cross-cultural situations. The authors show how to apply cultural intelligence in a series of specific situations: making decisions; communicating, negotiating, and resolving conflicts; leading and motivating others; and designing, managing, and contributing to multicultural groups and teams. This extensively revised third edition has been updated with new stories showing cultural intelligence in action. Thomas and Inkson have broadened the focus beyond business to include organizations of all kinds—nonprofits, governments, educational institutions, and more. And they include a reliable and valid measure of cultural intelligence based on a decade of research by an international team of scholars.

Abstract

Over a period of several centuries, the academic study of risk has evolved as a distinct body of thought, which continues to influence conceptual developments in fields such as economics, management, politics and sociology. However, few scholarly works have given a chronological account of cultural and intellectual trends relating to the understanding and analysis of risks. Risk: A Study of its Origins, History and Politics aims to fill this gap by providing a detailed study of key turning points in the evolution of society's understanding of risk. Using a wide range of primary and secondary m
