A l'occasion de ses 25 ans d'existence, la Bibliotheca Wittockiana présente pour la première fois les pièces les plus précieuses de la collection de son fondateur, Michel Wittock. Cette exposition montre comment la folle passion d'un homme l'a conduit à créer la Wittockiana, devenue aujourd'hui un lieu incontournable dans le domaine des arts du livre en général et de la reliure en particulier. Parmi les 5 000 trésors conservés dans la Réserve Précieuse du musée, Michel Wittock a choisi 250 reliures les plus significatives pour illustrer les changements de style et d'ornementation depuis la Renaissance jusqu'à nos jours. Tout en mettant l'accent sur l'évolution du décor dans la reliure d'art à travers les différents mouvements esthétiques dont l'impact fut déterminant sur les arts décoratifs, cette exposition nous fait découvrir cinq siècles d'art, d'histoire et de culture. Chacune des oeuvres choisies est présentée dans son contexte historique, artistique et culturel. Ce catalogue, unique en son genre par la richesse de ses illustrations et par l'extrême précision de chaque notice, se révèle être un ouvrage de référence pour tout bibliophile et amateur de reliures.
