"Published to accompany the first retrospective of Sophie Taeuber-Arp's work in the United States in 40 years, Sophie Taeuber-Arp: Living Abstraction presents a comprehensive survey of this multifaceted innovator's wide-ranging body of work and establishes unequivocally her place in the pantheon of 20th-century abstract art. Taeuber-Arp's background in the applied arts and dance, her involvement in the Zurich Dada movement, and her projects for architectural spaces were essential to her development of a uniquely versatile and vibrant abstract vocabulary. Through her artistic output and various professional alliances, Taeuber-Arp consistently challenged the historically constructed boundaries separating fine art from craft and design. This richly illustrated catalogue explores the artist's interdisciplinary and cross-pollinating approach to abstraction through some four hundred works, including textiles, beadwork, polychrome marionettes, architectural and interior designs, stained-glass windows, works on paper, paintings, and relief sculptures." --

A leading figure in the world of networked culture explores the artists and events that defined the mass medium of our timeSince 1989, the year the World Wide Web was born, the art world has grappled with the rise of networked culture. This unprecedented survey of the artists and innovators in this area from 1989 to today is interwoven with the personal narrative of one of the leading voices on the digital world. In this book, Omar Kholeif, whose prolific career parallels the growth of the internet, tells the story of this mass medium and how it has fostered new possibilities for artists, both analog and digital. The book showcases work spanning a range of media from legendary artists including Lawrence Abu Hamdan, Lynn Hershman Leeson, Nam June Paik, Heather Phillipson, and Wu Tsang. Tracing the key artists and innovators from the emergence of browser-based art to the dawn of NFTs, this is a tale for the present and the future.Specifications:

"So Far, So Close? is an exhibition of new work by Brussels-based artist Jean-Baptiste Bernadet at the Almine Rech Gallery. His first solo exhibition since joining the gallery last year, Bernadet will stage a presentation anchored by examples from his celebrated series of "Fugue" paintings. The "Fugue paintings" operate as a center point or fulcrum for Bernadet's practice as a whole. On one level this is formal, in terms of the artist's interest in color, and in an art historical tradition of coloristic, optical painting with both American and European antecedents from Claude Monet, Eduard Vuillard, Odilon Redon in the past to Josh Smith and Joe Bradley in the present. On a conceptual level, these paintings exemplify Bernadet's interest in exploring and questioning the nature of perception in our moment. Like his forebears in color painting, Bernadet uses the ways that colors, and their interaction, both activate the senses and allow the viewer to reflect back on the nature of that sensory activation, something which we realize in conditioned by both us and the artist being products of a certain time and place" --

The well-known South African artist William Kentridge (b. 1955) has become famous for his time-lapse animation movies and installations, as well as his activities as an opera and theater director. This book offers a unique selection of Kentridge's work curated for Sint-Janshospitaal in Bruges--at 800 years one of Europe's oldest surviving hospital buildings--organized around the themes of trauma and healing. The book features an introduction by Margaret K. Koerner, and also includes essays by diverse distinguished contributors: Benjamin Buchloh considers Kentridge's alternate reception of the historical avant-garde from a perspective of exile; Joseph Leo Koerner explores the artist's work as a self-styled process of working in which the past simultaneously disfigures and redeems; and Harmon Siegel examines Kentridge's approach to film history.
