For over a decade now, the debate on art has been dominated by the rhetoric of research. However, does the concept of artistic research still express its originally radical and experimental power today? The concept seems to have become hackneyed and obscured by method fever and academic jargon. Perhaps the time has come to invigorate its conceptual framework - for example through terminology referring to its companion in art, namely philosophy's branch of aesthetics. Could experimental and speculative processes of thought again be leading in aethetic debates and contemporary art? These are the issues that come to the fore in this publication through a series of projects, views, and perspectives connected to the project *Aesthetic Jam* - part of the 9th Tapei Biennial.

Over the last decade, art education has been confronted time and again with neoliberal thought and attitudes. As a result of this, art education has turned slowly but surely into a specific product focused on quantifiable and verifiable end results manifested and legitimized by the rhetoric of marketing and efficiency. Although the debate on artistic research indeed demands space for a free artistic space for thought, it also seems necessary now to raise the question regarding the potential of educational platforms outside the Bologna rules. The 1st Tbilisi Triennial (Offside Effect, Tbilisi 2012), curated by Henk Slager and Wato Tsereteli, concentrated on this specific issue. In a forum-like display system, a number of keynote artists and lecturers in collaboration with their students from a dozen of experimental academies from all over the world presented their strategic ways of working. This publication's goal is to not only document the 1st Tbilisi Triennial, but to also incite further diagnoses and developments in the debate on current art academies and their contexts. Contributions: Tiong Ang, Jürgen Bock, Lucrezia Cippitelli, Sarah Cowles, Stephan Dillemuth, Inci Eviner, F+F Zurich, Rene Francisco, Rainer Ganahl, Nikolaus Hirsch, Jan Kaila, Nazareth Karoyan, Annette Krauss, Young June Lee, Tara McDowell, Mildred's Lane, Marion von Osten, Irena Popiashvili, Henk Slager, Nedko Solakov, Katharina Stadler, Wato Tsereteli, Anton Vidokle, Visual Culture Research Center Kiev, Mick Wilson.

Building the City Together explores the topic of action in public space, through the scope of a common space for living, working and thinking together designed and built on the Mathildenhöhe in Darmstadt in 2014. The Osthang Summer School, curated by raumlaborberlin, invited 60 participants to settle there for three weeks as a new artist colony. Artists? Or were they architects, furniture makers, landscape designers, cooks, or maybe civilians? This publication contains introductions to the five structures built on the Osthang, including interviews with and text by the individuals involved in the projects, as well as three conversations with professionals reflecting on three aspects of participative projects in urban context: Experimental Architecture, Commoning and Cooperation, and Incremental Urbanism.

In most countries art education is not immune from a large-scale reorganization. Educational institutions are increasingly required to operate as enterprises that compete for the best or the largest number of students and to express their objective and results in financial and management terms. In short, the field of education has become a 'market'. 'Teaching Art in the Neoliberal Realm' investigates the effects of this setup on the content and practice of artistic education and the position of art and the artist.

"Akademie X is an art school without walls. Unrestricted by geography and open to all, it brings together the finest faculty of arts educators from across the globe ... Its tutors have the freedom to instruct and guide according to their individual style, revealing wisdom drawn from their own experiences or setting structured assignments and tasks. They inspire creativity by presenting examples of their work, while their resources lists offer stimulating guidance for self-directed study. Akademie X's educational philosophy is that, above all, students need preparation for professional life--in practical, financial and ideological terms. Here, they can become fully prepared for the real business of being an artist in the fast-changing environment of the contemporary art world"--Pages 2-3.
