The transport sector is one of the most valuable sectors in the world. It represents the large oil consumers but still relies mainly on fossil fuels. Since the world trend in fossil fuel use is expected to increase further, a more sustainable transportation system is unavoidable to cope with emerging economic and social issues, such as massive energy consumption and emissions of pollutant gases. In this regard, this book provides an overview of some recent and promising technological advancements in propulsion systems, ranging from on-board components to different propulsion system architectures. In particular, the book aims at giving a brief but significant insight into propulsion system design and architecture, by covering different topics and application fields (road, marine, and aerospace).

Almost all animals move around frequently in space. Their aim is to walk and fly in search of food or to propagate their species. Thus, changing positions is important for creatures' survival and maintaining the environment. As such, this book examines movement with a focus on force and propulsion. Chapters cover topics including rocket engines, electric propulsion, mechanisms of force, and more.

This e-book presents an overview of field propulsion systems for the use of space travel and interstellar travel. Such systems include warp drive and anti-gravity schemes, and rely on momentum transfer from the spacecraft to the external force field and from there to other masses in the cosmos in order to satisfy conservation of momentum. This cannot be achieved by the conventional methods like chemical propulsion and electric propulsion. The e-book should be a valuable source of information for researchers interested in spaceflight and propulsion physics.

"The GPPS Journal has been developed to serve the international power and propulsion community in the time of change. The Journal with its close link to the GPPS technical conference series has played and continues to play a uniquely important role. I very much appreciate the contributions made and the solid foundation laid by the founding editor (Prof. Howard Hodson), the associate editors and the editorial office team, and believe that with the help of all involved, including the reviewers and authors, the Journal can and will be progressed further, in terms of the quality and speed of the publications and in terms of the impact on academic and industrial communities of the society"--About GPPS, viewed March 9, 2020.

Liquid Acquisition Devices for Advanced In-Space Cryogenic Propulsion Systems discusses the importance of reliable cryogenic systems, a pivotal part of everything from engine propulsion to fuel deposits. As some of the most efficient systems involve advanced cryogenic fluid management systems that present challenging issues, the book tackles issues such as the difficulty in obtaining data, the lack of quality data and models, and the complexity in trying to model these systems. The book presents models and experimental data based on rare and hard-to-obtain cryogenic data. Through clear descriptions of practical data and models, readers will explore the development of robust and flexible liquid acquisition devices (LAD) through component-level and full-scale ground experiments, as well as analytical tools. This book presents new and rare experimental data, as well as analytical models, in a fundamental area to the aerospace and space-flight communities. With this data, the reader can consider new and improved ways to design, analyze, and build expensive flight systems.

"For a large number of countries, the task of Arctic exploration and implementation of year-round navigation along the Northern Sea Route, which has become a reality today due to global warming, has become increasingly relevant in recent years. In turn, its solution requires the creation of a multi-purpose Arctic fleet, consisting of modern icebreaker ships with efficient and fault-tolerant propulsion systems, fully compliant with the specific operational conditions of the Arctic. In the last decade, due to the significantly increased interest to the new transport connection between West Europe and the Far East and the growth of various cargo traffic (oil, gas, containers, etc.) by the Northern Sea Route, the need of a significant increase of quantity and capacity of icebreaker cargo fleet has appeared. In order to maintain year-round navigation in the Northern Sea Route in the next few years, ships for various purposes are planned to be built (multipurpose and universal ships, supply ships, lighters, oil and gas tankers, hovercrafts, and others), which are intended for operation in the seas of the Arctic basin. Comprehensive efficiency of transportation process in the Arctic seas depends not only on the planning and coordination activities of the fleets and harbors, but also on the ships' technical characteristics. It means that icebreaker ships should have appropriate special features, accordingly to the requirements for navigation in the Arctic ice conditions. The results of the presented scientific research, which are based on statistical operational data from the 1980s, determined the main directions for development of today's modern icebreaker ships designed for Arctic operation in specific ice conditions. Considering that the projects of year-round navigation along the Northern Sea Route, which have become a reality today, the task of creating corresponding ships with highly reliable and fault-tolerant electric propulsion systems is extremely relevant today. The proposed systematic methodology of the choice of the appropriate type of propulsion system for icebreaker cargo Arctic ships was confirmed by many years of successful operational experience in the ice navigational conditions. During the design process of icebreaker ships, the question about choice of ship's propulsion system arises, taking into account a power-producing unit and propeller, coupled with the frame of the ship. The correct solution of this problem has a significant value for the further operation of the ship. The aim of this book is to provide a comprehensive presentation of multicriteria operational efficiency analysis of the competing ship's propulsion systems that would be most suitable for icebreaker Arctic ships, taking into account the real operating conditions of ice navigation"--

In recent years scientists have investigated a series of new methods for non-rocket space launch, which promise to revolutionize space launches and flight. Particularly in the current political climate new, cheaper, and more 'fuel efficient' methods are being investigated. Such new methods include the gas tube method, cable accelerators, tether launch systems, space elevators, solar and magnetic sails, circle launcher space keepers and more. The author brings a vast amount of experience to the topic, having worked as a engineer, designer, project director and researcher at key insti
