Published on the occasion of an exhibition at Collezione Maramotti centring on the installation piece "Isolated Bathroom / Composition with Four Colors" by Dutch artist Mark Manders, this book comprises a lengthy series of black-and-white photographs from behind the scenes and of the artist's working environment, together with his creative process. In a special insert, Manders explains his thoughts on the piece, which Mario Diacono then further analyses in detail, discussing the spatial and semantic hierarchy of elements, its triggering of multiple associations, and relationship with Manders' entire body of work, extending from "Self-portrait as a building", begun in 1986.

A catalogue of the extensive retrospective exhibition. The Absence of Mark Manders at the Bonnefanten Museum, Maastricht. The rooms in the exhibition can be regarded as the spaces of the artist's ongoing work Self-portrait as a building. The works have been left behind by the artist in three different zones: the visitor enters a living room, then the museum, and finally the studio. According to Manders, all of these works are interchangeable and can be put into a different context, like words in a sentence can also be used in different combinations. A text by Douglas Fogle focuses on the role of language in Manders's oeuvre. Exhibition: Bonnefanten Museum, Maastricht, The Netherlands (04.02.2020 - 23.08.2020).

Sculptor Mark Manders installed an exhibition in the Woning Van Wassenhove, a post-Brutalist house designed by Juliaan Lampens in 1974. Although Manders hardly touched some spaces, he treats the bed, office, and kitchen as stages for aggregation in line with the original occupant’s mindset: drawings, architectural proposals, photographs, artworks, paint pots, and seemingly wet clay are piled on top of one another. In Manders’s words: “The aim is to show the house in a perfect situation. While some spaces derail when you zoom in on them, there is a kaleidoscopic element to it, as if you are looking inside a head.”

Mark Manders was awarded the Van Lanschot Kempen Art Prize 2018, which is given annually to a mid-career artist in the Benelux. This volume recognises this achievement in the form of an extended English edition of 'Les études d'ombres' (2012), published in French and commissioned by Carré d'Art in Nîmes. Since 1986, Manders has continuously worked and expanded on the notion of his 'Self-Portrait as a Building', producing artworks that resemble a fictional building, with divisions between various rooms and levels, but the exact dimensions and shape of which can never be determined. As such, his oeuvre forms a larger 'Gesamtkunstwerk' that fascinates our imagination.

Exhibition: Zeno X Gallery, Antwerp, Belgium (03.09. - 15.10.2022).

"The art of drawing flourished in the 1990s, and broke significantly from the tenets of twentieth-century modernism. Drawing Now: Eight Propositions surveys this new work, and shows drawing as no less adventurous and aesthetically satisfying than any of the more recent and seemingly more current methods of artmaking today. Carefully executed and highly finished, the drawings explored in this book - which accompanies an exhibition at The Museum of Modern Art (in its temporary home in Queens, New York) in 2002-2003 - are largely representational and descriptive, sometimes with an interest in story-telling. Some show affinities with illustration, fashion, or comic strips; others are closer to industrial and commercial varieties of precision drawing, such as architectural plans and scientific renderings; still others take ideas from the traditions of ornament."
