The Sacrifice of Praise by Herman Bavinck explores the Christian duty of confessing Jesus Christ as Lord, particularly in relation to the Lord’s Supper. This theological work delves into the significance of confession in the Christian life, emphasizing its role as a 'sacrifice of praise' to God. Bavinck discusses the progression of Christian nurture from baptism to confession and participation in the Lord's Supper, highlighting the organic relationship between these elements. The book addresses the importance of personal and communal faith declarations, and the role of family and church in nurturing faith. Aimed at pastors, teachers, and parents, it serves as a resource for instructing Christians at various stages of discipleship.

"Albert the Great wrote On the Body of the Lord in the 1270s, making it his final work of sacramental theology. A companion volume to his commentary on the Mass, On the Body of the Lord is a comprehensive discussion of Eucharistic theology. The treatise is structured around six names for the Eucharist taken from the Mass: grace, gift, food, communion, sacrifice, and sacrament. It emerges from the liturgy and is intended to draw the reader back to worship. The overall movement of the treatise follows the order of God's wisdom. Albert begins by discussing the Eucharist as a gift flowing from the goodness of the Trinity. He touches on its relation to redemption and the Church, including a rigorous Aristotelian analysis of Eucharistic change and presence before ending with a discussion of Mass rubrics. The most significant theological emphasis is on the Eucharist as food given to feed the people of God."--

Andreas Bodenstein von Karlstadt played a key role in the development of the evangelical understanding of the Lord's Supper. In 1521 he wrote several pamphlets urging a reform of the Mass. In 1524 he broke with Martin Luther and published a second group of pamphlets rejecting the traditional belief in Christ's corporeal presence in the Eucharist. Despite the importance of Karlstadt's tracts, they are little known today, and his understanding of the Lord's Supper is often reduced to a caricature. For the first time, Amy Nelson Burnett translates his thirteen pamphlets into English, illuminating Karlstadt's importance for the Reformation debate over the Eucharist and his contribution to what would become Reformed sacramental theology.
