This monograph presents the Loebermann collection in its entirety, featuring more than 300 of Lyonel Feininger's graphic works and offering a generous cross-section of the artist's oeuvre. Associated with the Die Bruecke and Bauhaus movements of early twentieth century, Feininger emigrated to America during World War II, where he painted the subjects he admired most - images of the urban world; the beauty and power of the trains; paddle steamboats, schooners and yachts making their way up the Hudson River. Architect and art collector Harald Loebermann was drawn to the structural ingenuity of Feininger's drawings and paintings. His collection of Feininger's graphic work is published here in its entirety. Presented chronologically and in a simple classical format, the works are enhanced by quotations from Feininger himself, along with critical commentary. Through these folios and with the aid of the essays' appreciation of the artist, readers can discover Feininger's works for themselves, and study the development of an artist who depicted the beauty of modern life in line and paint.
