Abstract

Museumswissenschaft, Museumsanalyse, Museumsgeschichte, Museumstheorien ...

Abstract

Beginning with the immigrants from Asia, through inventions of agriculture, cities and kingdoms, American First Nations are integral to the history of the United States. They explored the continent, pioneered its waterways and mountain passes, cleared forests, irrigated deserts, and ranched its great plains.Invading Europeans justifies their conquests by denying the evidence of American Indian civilisations. Using her familiarity with the archaeological remains and remnants, Alice Kehoe builds a fascinating prehistory, highlighting the research puzzles along the way. This book prese

Abstract

This book is the culmination of the author's lifelong interest in the Roman to medieval transition in England and in the analysis of the historic landscape of Wessex. It begins with a focused, referenced, and critical exploration of the thorny, but crucial, issues of post-Roman personal and group identity, employing linguistic, historical, archaeological and toponymical evidence. A series of integrated studies seek to elucidate changes in the territorial organisation of the Wessex landscape, from Somerset to Hampshire, from the Roman period to the emergence of the historic counties.

Abstract

"A new generation of archaeologists has thrown down a challenge to post-processual theory, arguing that characterizing material symbols as arbitrary overlooks the material character and significance of artifacts. This volume showcases the significant departure from previous symbolic approaches that is underway in the discipline. It brings together key scholars advancing a variety of cutting edge approaches, each emphasizing an understanding of artifacts and materials not in terms of symbols but relationally, as a set of associations that compose people's understanding of the world. Authors draw on a diversity of intellectual sources and case studies, paving a dynamic road ahead for archaeology as a discipline and theoretical approaches to material culture"--

Abstract

The book ‘Magali Reus. Red Roses’ shows the extraordinary artistic practice of this internationally acclaimed London-based artist and winner of the prestigious Prix de Rome 2015. The publication features a range of recent works and exhibitions. Dutch artist Magali Reus (b. 1981) has been creating hyper-realistic sculptures for more than a decade. She represents, redefines, enlarges and deforms everyday objects in various materials and using surprising combinations of digital, manual and industrial processes. Reus’s work explores our relationship with utilitarian objects and the inextricable context of consumer society. Her virtuoso objects appear functional, but do not explicitly reveal what their function actually is. By investigating our relationship with objects, Reus is looking for a strategy to critically interrogate the production and consumption processes of our society. In conjunction with: Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens & Centre d’art contemporain – La Synagogue de Delme – Kunsthalle Bratislava & Atelier Calder.
