Abstract

We live in a dialogical world, where models - either active or latent - establish the configuration of our identity constructs and of our intellectual framework. It is hence impossible to clarify, within the limits of one colloquium, the entire spectrum of issues entailed by this complex topic, which already gathers together a myriad of interpretations under its umbrella. While excluding the mythicizing attitude on the French cultural model, we can clearly state that its spirit, along with the Greek and Roman ones, is immanent to the European and universal cultural landscape, thus contributing to the coherence of their forms. The three volumes of scientific research in the series of Identity constructions. Echoes of the French cultural model in a European and universal context are illustrative of this fact. At its first edition, this colloquium hopefully inaugurates a wonderful and long-lasting tradition. The papers presented during this event will reach the interested audience via these volumes that have benefitted in time from new contributions, which directly or indirectly reflect the impact of the driving models. Our purpose was to provide plenty of exposure space to all the contributors who were interested in this topic. This publication aims to promote an interdisciplinary approach of certain issues that are in the contact zone between linguistics and literature, and beyond, via multiple perspectives in various national, multilingual and international contexts. Structured in three volumes, Literature, Literature & cultural Studies; Linguistics & Teaching Methodology, the series aims to be a means of cultural contact, academic dialogue, open to not necessarily convergent ideas.

The essays - written by authors from the area of German studies and Germanic philology, Lusitanistics, Hispano-American studies, Sinology and Comparative studies - analyse various aspects of the theme of "migration" in the variety of its expressions: alongside strictly linguistic observations, they investigate the phenomenon of intercultural contact on a social, historical, literary and anthropological level.

Abstract

Applied Linguistics can contribute to the enhancement of economic growth and societal well-being by addressing today’s social challenges and integrating employability, internationalization initiatives and knowledge transfer across higher education and elsewhere. This volume aims first to raise awareness of the significant contribution of Applied Linguistics in these key areas and then explore the challenges which scholars, researchers and students need to address when trying to build successful and sustainable collaboration between universities, industries and public sectors in national, transnational and international contexts. It also provides clear pointers for bringing university degrees in line with today’s job market and social demands.

Abstract

In recent years, several investments have been made in graduate schools for teachers, with the aim of building up the school's knowledge base and increasing the number of teachers in the school with postgraduate education. The content of this book is based on the results from the national graduate school for language teachers The didactics of foreign languages (FRAM) which was conducted with support from the Swedish Research Council during the period 2012-2015. The graduate school enabled a unique exchange of knowledge between active teachers who found interesting study objects in their current teaching context and the academy's researchers who saw the relevance of the project ideas in the background of the research field. This type of collaboration in research and education fulfilled the overall purpose of the graduate school. A synergy effect was that language didactic research in Sweden received an important addition of classroom-related research projects in a wide range of specializations. Based on the graduate school's three main areas, namely language learning, digital resources in language teaching and language assessment, projects were carved out on multilingualism, motivation, language and subject-integrated teaching, feedback, (co) assessment and much more. Participating authors are ten teachers who have researched the learning, teaching and assessment of English and modern languages. Their work is presented in separate chapters. In the introduction, the book's editors provide an insight into how a graduate school for teachers can be set up and how FRAM has contributed to the expanding and multifaceted research field Language Didactics.
