For several years in Western-oriented cultures a growing social criticism at different institutions has been established. The critical questioning of traditional values and practices has led to processes of change, for example, in political parties, trade unions, but also in the Christian churches. In terms of the ecclesiastical and religious matters, it can be said that now on the one hand, many people have left the church, on the other hand, however, a keen and growing interest in spirituality and other faiths, especially in Buddhism has appeared. Meanwhile in Europe, meditation groups, Buddhist monasteries and accordingly-directed lectures and events not only in urban areas have become the norm. This social development is related but not exclusively to the criticism of the churches or the experience of deficits in the local religion but has complex reasons. This paper intends to clarify why western people socialized in the life course turn to Buddhism and identify with its contents. Urged on by the psychology of religion content in this work, does the author intend to contribute a part to the strengthening yet somewhat marginal area of the psychology of religion in order to approach so far often been bracketed psychological question attitudes and support of being human. It should also be pointed out that religion and science are not necessarily mutually exclusive, but that the integration of different perspectives is very fruitful and enlightening.

Both volumes deal with serious personal mistakes in the course of life. Part I, the basic research was conducted at the TU Berlin by Andrea Lengert and supervised by Prof. Dr. Gerd Jüttemann. In this exploratory qualitative project problem-centered interviews and the grounded theory approach for analyzing the data were used to examine what intra-individual processes follow a wrong decision. Part II, written by Jill Tegge, contains the results of a replication study, which was undertaken at the TU Braunschweig under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Schulz. The study uses comparative casuistry ("komparative Kasuistik"). In addition, an online questionnaire asking people about own errors in their past, was used to collect data.

This research study on the exercise of prostitution was conducted at the TU Berlin and focussed on a specific form of prostitution. These were "mistresses" or "sklavias" offering a special service to sadomasochistic-assessed men. The investigation resulted from the consideration of the concept of autogenesis by Prof. Dr. Gerd Jüttemann (1999), following the thesis that the person is seeking essentially for self-determined behavior. With eight biographical interviews, a comparison was made between mistresses appearing in the prostitution situation very self-determined and Sklavias subject in this situation of extreme foreign control. The research question related to how self- and foreign control continue mirror in other areas of life of these women.

This book focuses on the fiscal decentralisation processes and the systems of local government financing in Serbia and Montenegro in the period 2000-2015. The retrospective analysis of the decentralisation processes in both countries show that they have been moving back and forth between decentralisation and centralisation, constantly swinging the pendulum of political discourse and the legal framework on intergovernmental fiscal governance. During the observed period, the systems of local government financing in both countries have often undergone drastic changes. Thus, this study focuses on the analysis of the impact of the legal framework related to intergovernmental fiscal relations, fiscal decentralisation and local government financing in Serbia and Montenegro on local government budgets. By applying both normative and economic analyses, as well as both quantitative and qualitative research methods, the study evaluates the legal quality and economic and factual effects of relevant legislation on local government budgets and status in the period 2000-2015. The study is divided into four parts: 1) Introduction; 2) Case Study: Serbia; 3) Case Study: Montenegro (both case studies include normative, economic and empirical analyses of the fiscal decentralisation process and the system of local government financing); 4) Comparative conclusions and recommendations.

Universalism has always shown two faces to the world: one emancipatory and inclusionary, the other repressive and exclusionary. Jewish experience of universalism has been correspondingly equivocal. Antisemitism and the left provides an original and stimulating study of modern antisemitism, tracing the intellectual and political struggles between these two opposed perspectives. At times, universalism has acted as a stimulus for Jewish emancipation, for civil, political and social inclusion. But it has also been used to justify hatred of Jews, depicting them as hostile to the entire human race, in ways even more sinister than those found in pre-modern and largely Christian traditions of anti-Judaism. A key feature of this repressive and exclusionary universalism and the distinctly modern form of antisemitism it has generated has been the construction of a putative 'Jewish question', which somehow needs to be 'solved'. This book provides conceptual analysis of the struggles waged within the Enlightenment, Marxism, critical Jewish thought and the contemporary left, engaging with such key authors as Mendelssohn, Marx, Adorno and Horkheimer, Arendt and Habermas, to critique the very notion of the 'Jewish question' and rescue universalism from the antisemitic morass into which it has too often fallen. Antisemitism and the left will appeal to students, lecturers and the general reader interested in antisemitism and/or in principles of universalism, spanning the fields of politics, sociology, history, philosophy and Jewish studies.

This volume addresses the role and importance of education for processes of transitional justice. In the aftermath of conflict and mass violence, education has been one of the tools with which societies have sought to achieve positive transformation. While education has the potential to trigger, maintain, and exacerbate conflict, it has also been designed to promote a deeper, more nuanced understanding of the past and to advance reconciliation, peacebuilding, and prevention. The original contributions in the book reflect on lessons learned from education policies of the past in post-conflict societies and seek innovative, sustainable, and context-sensitive grassroots approaches, designed to advocate critical thinking, values of inclusion and tolerance, and ultimately a culture of peace.

This volume is timely in that it explores key issues which are currently at the forefront of the EU's relations with its eastern neighbours. It considers the impact of a more assertive Russia, the significance of Turkey, the limitations of the Eastern Partnership with Belarus and Moldova, the position of a Ukraine in crisis and pulled between Russia and the EU, security and democracy in the South Caucasus. It looks at the contested nature of European identity in areas such as the Balkans. In addition it looks at ways in which the EU's interests and values can be tested in sectors such as trade and migration. The interplay between values, identity and interests and their effect on the interpretation of europeanisation between the EU and its neighbours is a core theme of the volume.
