In African-Australian Marriage Migration: An Ethnography of (Un)happiness , Henrike A. Hoogenraad follows journeys of marriage migration among African-Australian couples. The study narrates these journeys as 'happiness projects', since for cross-border couples, happiness is connected to dreams for a life-long partnership that begins with the visa application. Yet, happiness is invoked as an aspired state rather than an achieved goal. The obstacles of government bureaucracy, institutional and everyday racism, and unrealistic expectations of romance prevent the hoped-for happy endings. This monograph upsets a 'scam artist' narrative that generalises migrant men and their sponsoring partners, and which obscures the difficult process of crossing borders both physical and intimate. Hoogenraad's work is a welcome contribution to anthropological literature on marriage migration.

"Exploring narratives produced by different groups of MENA and SSA migrants or refugees of various backgrounds, this book focuses on the spatial and temporal aspects of their experiences. Using extensive research of narratives in a variety of different languages, it examines a wide range of accounts of journeys to the host country and memories (or recreations) of "home", the spaces that migrants occupy (or not) in their new country, spaces and times they share with local populations, and different conceptions of space and time across generations. It also considers how feelings surrounding space and time are manifested within these different narratives and their affective-discursive practices. The book takes both a traditional, linear view of migration as well as a multilinear, multimodal approach, presenting the way in which people inhabit multiple real and digital spaces."--

In African Somaesthetics: Cultures, Feminisms, Politics, Catherine F. Botha brings together original research on the body in African cultures, specifically interrogating the possibilities of the contribution of a somaesthetic approach in the context of colonization, decolonization, and globalization in Africa. The eleven innovative contributions that consider the somaesthetic dimensions of experience in the context of Africa (centred broadly around the themes of politics, feminisms, and cultures) reflect a diversity of perspectives and positions.
