Die Toten spielen eine gesellschaftspolitisch und kulturtheoretisch zentrale Rolle - sei es etwa in der Erinnerungspolitik oder hinsichtlich der Frage, wer wo bestattet und wie betrauert werden kann. Die Beiträger*innen aus Literaturwissenschaft und Politischer Theorie laden zu potenziell breiteren Lesarten einer »Politik der Toten« ein. Sie fragen nach der Möglichkeit, die Toten nicht nur als Objekte des Umgangs, sondern als Akteur*innen zu begreifen, deren Status in der Gesellschaft immer neu ausgelotet werden muss.
