"Présentée au musée de La Cour d'Or - Metz Métropole, l'exposition Splendeurs du Christianisme : Art et dévotions, de Liège à Turin (Xe-XVIIIe siècles) questionne l'originalité des formes de la création artistique dans un vaste espace géographique compris entre la principauté épiscopale de Liège et la capitale turinoise de l'ancien duché de Savoie, du Xe au XVIIIe siècle. Elle est l'aboutissement d'un vaste programme universitaire (ANR-LODOCAT), porté par l'Université de Lorraine. Cette exposition, qui a bénéficié de prêts exceptionnels, invite à découvrir une centaine d'oeuvres, inédites ou spécialement restaurées, choisies en fonction de leur intérêt historique et patrimonial. Elles se répartissent en six sections afin d'évoquer les principales dévotions des habitants de ces territoires dits de frontières : la figure tutélaire de la Vierge accueille le visiteur avant de l'inciter à " partir en pèlerinage " sous sa protection et celle des autres saints vénérés dans ces diverses régions. Saint Martin et saint Nicolas nous guident ensuite vers une section dédiée aux prélats et à leurs trésors : un éclairage particulier est réservé aux grands évêques lotharingiens, sans oublier les principaux défenseurs de la Réforme catholique comme saint Pierre Fourier en Lorraine et en Valais, saint François de Sales dans les Alpes ou saint Charles Borromée en Italie du Nord, également protecteur de la famille ducale de Lorraine."-- Back cover.
