‘This book provides a methodologically rigorous analysis that sheds new light on the young peoples' voting behaviour in Western Europe. A great reference for academics, practitioners, and students.’ – Professor Alessandro Chiaramonte, University of Florence, Italy, & New York University, USA This book uses various concepts of ‘age’ to examine young people’s voting behaviour in six European countries between 1981 and 2000. It addresses questions such as: what are the determinants of voting choices among young people, and to what extent are these factors different from those of adults? Through an innovative approach aimed at studying party choice with a strong empirical orientation, the author argues that age is less important in influencing voting choices than having been young and socialized to politics in a given historical period. Ultimately, values and political factors explain young people’s voting choices more than social identities, which marks a change from previous generations. This book will appeal to students and scholars in comparative politics, electoral behaviour, party politics, and political sociology. Nicola Maggini is Research Fellow at the University of Florence, Italy, and a member of CISE (Italian Centre for Electoral Studies). He has published on Italian and international scientific journals and co-edited several volumes for the Dossier CISE series. His research focuses on socio-political attitudes and voting behaviour in a comparative perspective.

This book deals with the changes in Korea's media governance between 1980 and 2017. It addresses this change by applying media governance frameworks, which emphasizes citizen participation and the impact of globalization. It focuses on the formation of the media system in which not only government, but also the private sector and civil society, have interacted as multi-stakeholders and changed the media ecosystem from authoritarian to democratic. The Korean media sector is a rare case that shows how industrialization, democratization and informatization–with global influence–have influenced and changed media governance.

This book investigates the life trajectories of Generation X and Y Australians through the 1990s and 2000s. The book defies popular characterizations of members of the ‘precarious generations’ as greedy, narcissistic and self-obsessed, revealing instead that many of the members of these generations struggle to reach the standard of living enjoyed by their parents, value learning highly and are increasingly concerned about the environment and the legacy current generations are leaving for their children and remain optimistic in the face of considerable challenges. Drawing on data from the Life Patterns longitudinal study of Australian youth (an internationally recognized study), the book tells the story of members of these ‘precarious generations’. It examines significant dimensions of young people’s lives across time, comparing how domains such as health and well-being, education, work and relationships intersect to produce the complex outcomes that characterize the lives of members of each of these generations. It also explores the strategies these generations use to make their lives and the ways in which they remain resilient. While the book is based on Australian data, the analysis draws on and contributes to the international literature on young people and social change.
