Est-il nécessaire de développer une stratégie de communication ? Et si oui, comment la transformer en messages convaincants, rendant fidèlement compte de leur identité ? Faut-il recourir à des experts extérieurs, engager des professionnels ou est-il possible de gérer sa communication ± avec les moyens du bord ? L'univers de la communication en profonde mutation secoue parfois les associations dans leur confiance à gérer toutes seules ces évolutions. Partant d'abord d'une prise de conscience de leur identité associative, nous invitons ensuite les associations à une réflexion leur permettant de construire des dispositifs de communication qui en soient le reflet cohérent. Nous sommes convaincus que la communication doit être prise en charge par les associations elles mêmes, quelle que soit leur taille ! Voilà pourquoi nous interrogeons d'abord l'identité associative, son positionnement dans l'économie plurielle de nos sociétés, ses publics - internes et externes -, les facettes multiples de sa communication, avant de nous pencher sur la question : comment réduire l'écart entre ce que les associations veulent ± vraiment communiquer, et ce que leurs publics perçoivent de leurs messages ? La réponse à ce questionnement réside dans la construction de dispositifs de communication, qui allient efficacement une dimension informative, mais aussi relationnelle et cognitive. Pas à pas, en proposant des exercices d'observation et de réflexion sur les outils existants, les auteurs tentent d'accompagner la réflexion stratégique des associations pour qu'elles maîtrisent davantage leur communication en y associant l'ensemble de leurs équipes de permanents et de bénévoles.
