En este número se reúnen nueve artículos inéditos sobre aspectos del relato breve (cuento y miccorrelato) en la literatura española e hispanoamericana del último cuarto del siglo XX. Encabezan el volúmen tres colaboraciones, agrupadas juntas sea por ser de orientación esencialmente teórica e histórica, sea por presentar una visión de conjunto de un género en un país. Los seis artículos que siguen son comentarios a obras particulares. Los nueve trabajos son representativos al constituir un conjunto caracterizado por la variedad de enfoques y métodos de aproximación a obras de doce destacados escritores e escritoras actuales (sin contar a los que se citan de manera lateral), de España, Argentina, Perú, México y Venezuela.

NOVEL: A Forum on Fiction is a literary critical journal that features articles on various aspects of the novel genre, including theories of the novel, narratives of race and ethnicity, the novel in an international context, the novel and the history of sexuality, the novel and mass visuality, the novel's place in cultural studies, and agency in or of the novel. It is published thrice yearly.

Mary Cassatt (1844-1926) est la seule peintre américaine à avoir exposé avec le groupe des impressionnistes français à Paris, et, bien qu'elle ait vécu soixante ans en France, elle était considérée de son vivant comme la plus grande artiste américaine. Cet ouvrage accompagnera la première grande rétrospective de son œuvre depuis plus de cent ans. Elle rassemblera 60 œuvres majeures, dont des huiles, pastels, dessins et gravures, qui, accompagnés de divers supports documentaires, raconteront son histoire, celle d'une Américaine à Paris. Les prêts proviendront de collections américaines et européennes, dont de nombreuses œuvres conservées en France, en Espagne, au Portugal, en Allemagne, en Suisse et en Yougoslavie. Rarement exposées, elles seront réunies ici pour la première fois. De nombreux prêts proviendront également de collections privées et de grands musées américains. L'exposition illustrera ainsi l'intérêt dont Mary Cassatt a toujours fait preuve pour les personnages plongés dans leurs pensées, qu'ils soient seuls, en famille ou dans un contexte social. Elle est particulièrement connue pour son approche moderne du sujet traditionnel de la mère et l'enfant, qui lui a valu une reconnaissance internationale. Le public reconnaîtra de nombreuses facettes familières de l'impressionnisme et du postimpressionnisme français et découvrira aussi de nouveaux éléments qui relèvent de son identité farouchement américaine. En tant qu'Américaine et que femme, elle a su se frayer un chemin dans le monde masculin de l'art français, et réconcilier ces deux univers.
