The work of Belgian artist and photographer Geert Goiris straddles a liminal position between landscape and still life. Haunting and dreamlike, the sometimes alien images denote a fundamental tension between man and nature often bordering on the sublime. From seemingly composed scenes of various objects or portraits to architectural and natural landscapes, the images impart a sense of uncanny timing or discerning observation, achieving both qualities of suspended time and unspoken narrative. Included is 'Myths, Places and Protagonists', a collection of short texts by Goiris offering personal insight into how a number of the images came to be created or inspired. 0Exhibition: M-Museum, Leuven, Belgium (14.2.-19.5.2013).

What does the art of painting still mean in today? That is a question that occupies Vincent Geyskens and that he explores in his diverse oeuvre. When we look at images, we look for connections with our world, with the reality we know. Vincent plays with these expectations of images and painting: what do images mean to us, what role do surfaces and paint play in how we read and analyse an image, what links do we make with images we encounter in our everyday life? For the artist, painting is a way of making thoughts concrete and matter visible. His work challenges you, the viewer. Vincent Geyskens uses figurative and abstract elements interchangeably and experiments with different types of surfaces. These range from paper to plastic, from canvas to objects he has found, and in this way he explores the limits and possibilities of the chosen surfaces. Exhibition: Museum M, Leuven, Belgium (27.05.-09.09.2021).

Sawing a plank is like going for a walk by Kato Six (b. 1986) is published on the occasion of Kato's solo exhibition at M Leuven this autumn. This book encapsulates 10 years of her quest as an artist. The work of Kato Six (b. 1986) balances between abstract and figurative art. She works on different themes which she develops into series or ensembles. Architecture, design, domesticity and utensils all act as important references. Starting there, she uses recognisable and everyday materials such as MDF, stone, plastic or textiles. Kato wants to question certain affinities and let the viewer look at familiar objects or images from a different perspective. As a viewer, you feel connected to the object or image but the actual meaning or function no longer applies.

In her paintings, installations and drawings, which she systematically brings together in series, Belgian artist Leen Voet (b. 1971) incorporates elements from visual and literary sources with a subtle humor. Taking a voyeuristic approach to life, painting and artistry, Voet reflects on stereotypes, the autonomy of the individual and on origin and lineage. Her art hovers along the edge of the pictorial and is characterized by vibrant colors, delineated areas of color and geometrical shapes. M Leuven will present an extensive monographic exhibition of Leen Voet in April 2023, bringing together paintings and drawings from various series over the past 15 years. She also displays new work there. This richly illustrated book is Leen Voet’s first monograph and includes an essay by Martin Germann as well as a conversation between the artist and Eva Wittocx.
