«Vieillir en restant actif », voilà le message que porte l’Année européenne 2012 du vieillissement actif et de la solidarité entre les générations. Mais que signifie cette expression ? Travailler plus longtemps ? Oui, mais pas seulement…En posant leurs « Regards pluriels » sur le vieillissement actif, les contributions de ce numéro des Politiques sociales entendent résolument ouvrir les yeux de son lectorat sur le potentiel, peu connu pour les non-experts et les citoyens de tous âges, de cette notion. Pour autant, les perspectives d’Europe et d’ailleurs ne vont pas toutes dans le même sens : en fonction des données empiriques recueillies et des domaines d’action étudiés (emploi, bénévolat, maintien à domicile, participation sociale, etc.), elles invitent à replacer les significations diverses de l’activité associée au vieillissement dans leurs contextes de production et d’usage.Ce n’est qu’à cette condition, permise par un travail collectif tel que le propose ce numéro, que l’on pourra juger de la pertinence politique, scientifique et citoyenne d’une telle notion.
