Het fascinerende werk van Luc Tuymans Luc Tuymans: Seconds zoomt in op Tuymans' meest recente tentoonstelling (2021) bij Zeno X Gallery. Centraal in deze tentoonstelling stonden vier monumentale doeken waarop nummers zijn geschilderd, naast drie schilderijen die verstilde momenten vastleggen en een animatiefilm. Het opzet van Tuymans was om pertinente beelden te creëren in tijden van een wereldwijde pandemie. Een essay van Hans Rudolf Reust contextualiseert getallen als een terugkerend motief in de praktijk van de kunstenaar. De publicatie documenteert de tentoonstelling Seconds bij Zeno X Gallery in Antwerpen (België) die plaatsvond van 12 mei tot 26 juni 2021. Luc Tuymans (°1958) wordt beschouwd als één van de belangrijkste Europese schilders van zijn generatie. De kunstenaar onderzoekt onderwerpen als geschiedenis en geheugen, maar ook de relatie tussen fotografie en schilderkunst, waarbij hij een gedempt palet gebruikt om doeken te creëren die tegelijk terughoudend en grimmig zijn. Tuymans baseert zich steevast op beelden uit fotografie, televisie en film. Zijn kenmerkende composities maken gebruik van uitsnedes, close-ups en kadrering, waardoor hij nieuwe perspectieven biedt op het medium schilderkunst en op bredere culturele kwesties.
