Lydia Chagoll kennen we vooral als geëngageerde schrijfster en cineaste. Vooral het boek dat zij schreef over haar ervaringen als kind in een Japans kamp tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog en het boek over keizer Hirohito, maakten haar bij een breder publiek bekend. Dat zij ook een carrière als choreografe en danseres achter de rug heeft, is minder bekend. Dit boek over haar dansleven is samengesteld op basis van gesprekken met Chagoll en op basis van haar persoonlijk archiefmateriaal uit die periode. In de beginjaren van de televisie maakte Chagoll naam met balletten in tv-shows. Eind jaren zestig trok ze met haar eigen ballet 'Ballet Lydia Chagoll', een internationaal gezelschap van professionele dansers en danseressen, door binnen- en buitenland. Dansers hadden het in die pioniersjaren niet breed. Voor het dansen was er bijna geen subsidiegeld, en Chagoll moest dan ook noodgedwongen haar tijd en energie verdelen tussen het creatieve proces en het steeds weer op zoek gaan naar de broodnodige financiële middelen. Naast danseres en choreografe was Chagoll ook een gepassioneerd danspedagoge, zij zette zich jarenlang in voor een democratische opleidingsstructuur voor het ballet in Vlaanderen.

Si le premier ouvrage de Laurence Louppe, Poétique de la danse contemporaine, cherchait à rassembler les éléments théoriques permettant de saisir les différents courants chorégraphiques surgis au 20e siècle, son nouveau livre, Poétique de la danse contemporaine-La suite se centre sur la création chorégraphique de ces quinze dernières années, particulièrement multiforme. L’auteure, elle-même impliquée dans des démarches performatives depuis quelques années et riche d’une longue expérience du milieu chorégraphique, nous en propose une vision à la fois personnelle et englobante, à travers un choix d’œuvres et de démarches représentatives, qu’elle confronte aux courants philosophiques et artistiques contemporains.

La danse contemporaine a exploré tous azimuts les possibilités du corps dansant et developpé le mouvement dans l'espace. Germany's premier dancer between the two world wars, Wigman envisioried the dancer in the thrall of ecstatic and demonic forces. Transforming the performer into an abstract configuration of energy in space, her works subverted the traditional eroticization of the female dancer. Critics in her own time and historians since have hailed her as major innovator of dance modernism. This book is the first volume in England to examine Mary Wigman's overall career, to study in depth all her major dances, and to analyze her relationship with National Socialism. Johann Sebastian Bach’s Cello Suites are considered a milestone in the history of Western music. The intellectual and architectural elements continue to evoke contemporary appeal, with their rhythmic vitality and melodic intricacy. Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker’s affinity with Bach was already apparent in several previous creations, and she continues to pursue a choreographic écriture that captures the essence of Bach’s musical language. In this production, Bach’s score, performed in its totality by the world-renowned cellist Jean-Guihen Queyras, is faceted, challenged, and performed through a choreography for three male and two female dancers, De Keersmaeker herself one of them. Both the individual character of the six suites and their mutual interconnections emerge from this riveting symbiosis of music and dance.
