"La méthode des cas a vu le jour au début du XXe siècle à la Harvard Business School. Rapidement, cette méthode s'est répandue dans les écoles de gestion de la majorité des pays industrialisés. Essentiellement, l'étude de cas consiste à soumettre à un groupe de personnes une situation concrète afin de circonscrire la nature et les causes du problème et de proposer un éventail de solutions possibles. Ce recueil regroupe douze cas d'entreprise qui abordent des problématiques en gestion de la main-d'oeuvre, en rationalisation des ressources, en formation, en rémunération, en syndicalisation, en négociation collective, en gestion de la discipline... This book uses diaries written by ordinary British people over the past two centuries to examine and explain the nature and extent of everyday mobilities, such as travel to school, to work, to shop or to visit friends, and to explore the meanings attached to these mobilities. After a critical evaluation of diary writing, the ways in which mobility changed over time, interacted with new forms of transport technology, and varied from place to place are examined. Further chapters focus on the roles of family and life course, gender, income and class, and journey purpose in shaping mobilities, including immobility. It is argued that easy and frequent everyday mobilities were experienced by most of the diarists studied, that travellers could exercise their own agency to adapt easily to new forms of transport technology, but that factors such as gender, class, and location also created significant mobility inequalities. Colin G. Pooley is Emeritus Professor of Social and Historical Geography in the Environment Centre and the Centre for Mobilities Studies (CeMoRe), Lancaster University, UK. His research focuses on the social geography of Britain and continental Europe since circa 1800, with recent projects focused on residential migration, travel to work, everyday mobilities and sustainable transport. Marilyn E. Pooley is an Historical Geographer. She was formerly a Teaching Associate in the Environment Centre at Lancaster University, UK, and in retirement is researching (with Colin Pooley) everyday mobility in nineteenth- and twentieth-century Britain using life writing. .

Gender quotas for company boards are becoming a totemic issue of gender diversity policy in today's labour market. Throughout the Western world many countries are experimenting with compulsory gender diversity measures for board rooms. The European Union as a whole is considering to make such quotas obligatory. This book analyses the EU proposal and brings together the experiences of countries that have, to various degrees, taken the road towards formalising gender balance in the board room. Le nécessaire encadrement des progrès des sciences du vivant oblige le droit à une réflexion sur les valeurs éthiques de la société qui permettent de fixer la limite entre ce qui est scientifiquement possible et ce qui est légitime. "The gender pay gap (GPG) exists in every European country, but it varies considerably, even in EU member states covered by the same legal principles on pay equality. Part of the variation can be explained by different patterns of social partnership. With current policy pressure to de-centralise collective bargaining and increase the percentage of pay linked to productivity, what role can social partnership play in tackling the GPG? Reporting on the findings of the European Commission funded research project "Close the Deal, Fill the Gap", this book uses an interdisciplinary analysis involving legal, economic, and sociological expertise, to explore the role of social partnership in GPG in Italy, Poland and the UK. Selected on the basis of their contrasting profiles in terms of legal regulation, industrial relations, systems of collective bargaining, coverage of collective agreements, and differing rates of the GPG, the in-depth study provides important insights into the main issues underlying the problem of reducing the gender pay gap which have led to guidelines in the negotiation of arrangements on GPG-related issues.
