En parlant du judaïsme, nous utilisons souvent des expressions courantes telles que le Zohar, le Talmud, la Kippa, l'étoile de David, le Tallith, etc. En évoquant ces mots, nous prenons conscience que finalement nous en ignorons le sens réel. L'objectif de cet ouvrage est de définir ces principales expressions utilisées régulièrement de façon simple et non simpliste. Il s'agit de faire découvrir le judaïsme à travers ces concepts qui, placés les uns après les autres, donnent une idée claire des valeurs du judaïsme. Sont abordés ainsi les sources de la religion juive, les valeurs et les symboles, les étapes de la vie, en passant par le temps d'une semaine (le Chabbat), le temps d'une année (les fêtes), le temps d'une vie (les étapes de la vie), pour conclure avec les principes de foi

Elk jaar opnieuw worden in Vlaanderen en Nederland - en de rest van de wereld - verscheidene feesten massal en uitbundig gevierd: Nieuwjaar, Valentijn, Pasen, Halloween, Sinterklaas, Kerstmis, ... Toch weten weinig mensen wat we precies vieren bij deze jaarfeesten. Waarom gaat iedereen precies bij carnaval uit de bol? Wie was de Valentijn die zijn naam leende aan Valentijnsdag? Waarom hangt er een vis aan 1 april? Of wat heeft een haas te maken met Pasen? Is er een verband tussen Allerheiligen en Halloween? En hoe valt de forse opmars van Halloween te verklaren, terwijl de klad zit in folklore? Heeft Sinterklaas echt bestaan? Waarom bengelen er ballen in de kerstboom?
