Unlike most books on machine drives, Permanent Magnet Synchronous and Brushless DC Motor Drives provides comprehensive treatment of standard and low cost converter topologies and integrated control of the motor drive system. After an introduction to machines, power devices, inverters, and control, this book presents detailed coverage of PM synchronous machines, including modeling, implementation, control strategies, flux weakening operations, parameter sensitivity, and rotor position sensorless control. Subsequent chapters address the simulation, control, inverters topologies, and commutation torque ripple of pm brushless dc motor drives. MATLAB® codes are also included throughout the text where appropriate.

Samenvatting:Provides a systematic, practical treatment of DC/DC converters, fromtheir classical roots to the state of the art" Contains information on the latest techniques including voltage-lift,super-lift, and the new cascade prototypes" Introduces more than 100 topologies developed by the authors" Illustrates EMI/EMC reduction and various DC voltage sources" Presents theory and applications using hundreds of figures, discussions, and examplesDC/DC conversion techniques have undergone rapid development in recentdecades. With the pioneering work of authors Fang Lin Luo and Hong Ye,DC/DC converters have now been sorted into their six generations, and bya rough count, over 500 different topologies currently exist, with morebeing developed each year.Advanced DC/DC Converters offers a concise, practical presentation ofDC/DC converters, summarizing the spectrum of conversion technologies andpresenting many new ideas and more than 100 new topologies. The treatmentbegins with background material on DC/DC conversion and discussions onvoltage lift and super-lift converters. It then proceeds through eachgeneration, including the groundbreaking sixth generation--convertersdeveloped by the authors that can be cascaded for high voltage transfergain.More than 320 figures, 60 tables, and 500 formulae allow you to moreeasily grasp the overall structure of advanced DC/DC converters, providefast access to precise data, and help you quickly determine the values ofyour own circuit components. Nowhere else in the literature are DC/DCconverters so logically sorted and systematically introduced. Nowhereelse can you find detailed information on prototype topologies thatrepresent a major contribution to modern power engineering.

The control, estimation and identification related to variable speed drives are fascinating research areas. It is practically impossible to cover the entire area within one textbook. The material presented concentrates on the basic features of the most common electrical drive systems, being still a fairly broad spectrum. It is intended to provide a modern approach to an understanding of the performance and control methods of electrical machines. This textbook is the result of many international lectures and courses on electrical drives and research projects completed in the research group ELECTA, a division of the department of Electrical Engineering of the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in Belgium. It is directed to students following the course Electrical Drives and engineers working in the same field.

Power-Switching Converters provides detailed, practical coverage of switching converters, from the fundamental principles to the next generation of programmable devices. It examines buck, boost, quasi-resonant, loaded-resonant, and isolated configurations. The authors also compare the advantages of switching converters over conventional converters. This new edition includes new material and references, brings all chapters up to date, and provides two new chapters on interleaved converters and switched capacitor converters. The authors furnish new case studies and have also added the discrete-time modeling method to the discussion of the dynamic analysis of switching converters. After nearly a decade of success owing to its thorough coverage, abundance of problems and examples, and practical use of simulation and design, Power-Switching Converters enters its second edition with new and updated material, entirely new design case studies, and expanded figures, equations, and homework problems. This textbook is ideal for senior undergraduate or graduate courses in power electronic converters, requiring only systems analysis and basic electronics courses. The only text of such detail to also include the use of PSpice and step-by-step designs and simulations, Power-Switching Converters, Second Edition covers basic topologies, basic control techniques, and closed-loop control and stability. It also includes two new chapters on interleaved converters and switched capacitor converters, and the authors have added discrete-time modeling to the dynamic analysis of switching converters. The final two chapters are dedicated to simulation and complete design examples, respectively. PSpice examples and MATLAB scripts are available for download from the CRC Web site. These are useful for the simulation of students' designs. Class slides are also available on the Internet. Instructors will appreciate the breadth and depth of the material, more than enough to adapt into a customized syllabus. Students will similarly benefit from the more than 440 figures and over 1000 equations, ample homework problems, and case studies presented in this book.
