Everybody involved in biotechnology will appreciate having this volume at their fingertips. It contains the biological background material which is indispensable for the development of biotechnological processes and offers a unique collection of current information on the basic biology (ecology, taxonomy, biochemistry, physiology, and genetics) of industrially important organisms. The first part of the book presents the biological aspects of cell structure, organization, and metabolism to obtain a better understanding of the general function of cells. The second part deals with a large assemblage of insustrially important organisms. All of this information will be a useful basis for those who suddenly find themselves working on a new biotechnological project.Topics included are: Cell Structure/ Metabolism/ Growth of Microorganisms/ Metabolic Design/ Immobilized Organisms/ Methylotrophs/ Pseudomonads/ Yeasts/ Filamentous Fungi/ Bacteriophages/ Cell Cultures

In the new edition of Biochemistry, instructors will see the all the hallmark features that made this a consistent bestseller for the undergraduate biochemistry course: exceptional clarity and concision, a more biological focus, cutting-edge content, and an elegant, uncluttered design. Accomplished in both the classroom and the laboratory, coauthors Jeremy Berg and John Tymoczko draw on the field's dynamic research to illustrate its fundamental ideas.

Integrating nutrition science with biochemistry, genetics, and physiology, this textpresents key concepts in nutrition science, with emphasis on the role of macro- and micronutrients in energy metabolism. Revising and expanding information from "Advanced Nutrition Micronutrients and Advanced Nutrition Macronutrients, Second Edition," this renovated work includes new chapters on the regulation of food intake, daily recommendations, nutrition assessment, metabolism, toxicology, nutrigenomics, epigenetics, gene expression, cell cycle, and lifespan nutrition. It includes a glossary, clinical correlates, diagrams, supplemental readings, and a CD-ROM with laboratory exercises and PowerPoint illustrations.

This fourth edition of a bestseller has been thoroughly updated and provides a clear introduction to the basic science of nutrition and metabolism. It explains the scientific principles underlying our current understanding of the interactions between diet and health; explores the scientific basis of dietary goals and recommendations; and provides an authoritative description of the basics of biochemistry. New features include a list of key points at the end of each chapter and the addition of open-ended case-based problems. The accompanying CD-ROM has been revised to include PowerPoint presentations, self-assessment exercises, simulations of laboratory experiments, and a nutrient analysis program.
