"The Ceramics Reader is an impressive collection of essays and text extracts which covers all the key areas of ceramics -- both past and present. It focuses on thoughts and discussions within ceramics from the last 20-30 years in particular, but also gives the reader a broad overview of the last 100 years. One aim of the book is to introduce contemporary debates, raise awareness and stimulate thought rather than to present a closed case for examination. Consequently the essays or extracts present different approaches to give a rounded viewpoint. Beginning with essential questions such as 'Why are ceramics important?' it also considers the field of ceramics from a range of perspectives -- as a cultural activity, ceramics as metaphor, where it sits within arts and crafts, within gender discussions, ceramics as sculpture, the use of ceramics as a vehicle for propaganda, ceramics within industry, within museums, and most recently as part of the 'expanded field' as a Fine Art medium and vehicle for ideas. "Throughout the twentieth century, ceramics was broadly divided into two sectors. Studio pottery, which was a reaction against the mass-made wares of the industrial revolution, and fine art by contemporary artists, who just happened to use clay in their practice but rejected many of its traditional codes of practice. The unprecedented surge in popularity of ceramics in the last five years has helped forge a new type of potter: the ceramic designer. Part-craftsman, part designer, they bridge ceramic craft, collectible design, and fine art. These ceramicists include product designers who use clay as a means of creative expression, and classically trained potters who create design-led pieces, in addition to interior decorators, illustrators, and graphic designers. Their collective output includes furniture, decorative objects, murals, and vessels: not art, not craft, but design. The ambition of the book is to show the diversity of this area of creative production and the way in which history, craft, technology, and design are all intersecting in the present day, creating a new type of designer--and a new type of ceramicist. Op 1 januari 2014 traden de `nieuwe’ ontslagregels in werking, samen met de overgangsbepalingen en de begeleidende maatregelen over de opzeggingstermijnen en de carenzdag. Dat de wet van 26 december 2013 betreffende de invoering van een eenheidsstatuut tussen arbeiders en bedienden (hierna: WES) aanleiding zou geven tot betwistingen stond in de sterren geschreven. Enkele bepalingen van de WES zouden wellicht niet zomaar de toets met het grondwettelijk gelijkheidsbeginsel doorstaan. Bovendien stemt de tekst van de WES niet altijd overeen met de (ogenschijnlijke) bedoeling van de wetgever in de parlementaire voorbereidingen. De vraag rijst dan ook of die knelpunten in de praktijk aanleiding gegeven hebben tot betwistingen en hoe de rechtspraak die betwistingen beslecht heeft. Er bestaat intussen al heel wat rechtspraak, hoofdzakelijk over de overgangsregeling (de zgn. `dubbele fotoregeling’) en de regeling rond outplacement. Deze rechtspraak komt uitvoerig aan bod in dit boek. Daarnaast nemen de auteurs enkele andere toepassingsvragen onder de loep. Ze wijzen ook op wetswijzigingen die intussen zijn gebeurd. De auteurs verwijzen ook naar standpunten van de administraties, zoals de FOD WASO, de RSZ en de RVA.

Collectieve arbeidsovereenkomst nr. 109 betreffende de motivering van het ontslag van 12 februari 2014 (CAO 109) voert enerzijds het recht in voor de werknemer, uit de private sector, om de concrete redenen te kennen die tot zijn of haar ontslag hebben geleid.
