In heel wat domeinen van onze samenleving is de participatie van mannen en vrouwen nog steeds erg verschillend. Denk maar aan de academische wereld, waar nog steeds erg weinig vrouwelijke proffen aan het roer van de organisatie staan, of aan het politieke veld, waar het nog steeds wachten is op de eerste vrouwelijke eerste minister. In dit onderzoek staan de sectoren 'sport' en 'cultuur' centraal. Voor beide domeinen werd nagegaan in hoeverre mannen en vrouwen vertegenwoordigd zijn, en op welke niveaus. Via een webenquête ging de auteur na in hoeverre mannen en vrouwen aanwezig zijn in bestuursorganen van de cultuur- en sportwereld. Concreet bevroeg ze de gesubsidieerde culturele instellingen en organisaties, de Vlaamse sportfederaties, de gemeentelijke sportdiensten, de Vlaamse sportraden, en ook diverse sportclubs. Op basis van een analyse van de verzamelde data formuleerde ze conclusies voor de diverse domeinen binnen de sport- en culturele wereld. Verder zocht ze naar verklarende factoren en stelde ook beleidsaanbevelingen op
